About the Role
As our Race Strategy Engineer, you will work as part of the race strategy team providing analysis of strategy related data for both race and test events. You will contribute towards recommendations on strategic direction and decisions during test and race events. Outside of events, you will complete analysis work to aid with wider strategic decisions within the company (e.g. development targets, driver evaluation etc.) and contribute towards development and automation of analysis tools used within the Race Strategy team.
Due to the nature of the role, in line with the Formula One race calendar, many of our key activities take place on weekends where real time analysis and adjustments are crucial for strategy development and execution. Working during these times allows for effective collaboration with team members, drivers, and engineers to optimise performance.
Key accountabilities and responsibilities:
Provide race and test support, both factory and track based, for most events during the year.
Complete pre- and post-event analysis tasks for each event covering strategic inputs, decisions and competitor analysis.
Ability to run and monitor all strategy software systems during race and test events, including input parameterisation.
Carry out live strategic analysis (e.g. pitstop loss, tyre degradation, competitor analysis etc.) during qualifying and races.
Responsible for ensuring tasks are automated where possible.
Provide recommendations on strategic priorities and choices during test and race events.
Develop the current race strategy toolsets; working closely with the software group to ensure that toolsets are integrated and developed to a high standard
Develop, run and report on analysis work as required in the company, for example defining development targets (qualifying vs. race pace), detailed competitor analysis studies or driver evaluations.
To be successful you will have:
Essential:
Relevant mathematics, physics, computer science or engineering degree (2.1 minimum grade).
Proven experience working in an F1, or other high-level motorsport, team in a data analysis heavy role (Race Engineering, Strategy, Vehicle Dynamics or similar)
Experience developing code, ideally in Python
Experience working in a fast-paced environment
Experience communicating clearly and concisely in a time-pressured environment
Flexibility in hours is required
