Summary: The Transportation Manager will oversee the day-to-day operations of the Hendrick Technical Solutions transportation fleet, ensuring safe, efficient and compliant movement of goods and services. This role requires expertise in managing CDL drivers, tractors, trailers, company owned vehicles, forklifts, as well as coordinating their logistics across multiple locations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:
Fleet & Asset Management: Oversee daily maintenance, inspections, and repairs for tractors, trailers, company vehicles, and forklifts; ensure all equipment is roadworthy and compliant with safety standards.
Driver Oversight: Monitor driver qualifications, training, and performance; ensure adherence to safety regulations and legal requirements for interstate/intrastate shipping.
Route & Schedule Planning: Develop and optimize daily/weekly routes to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and meet delivery deadlines.
Load & Compliance Management: Inspect loads to prevent overloading; ensure compliance with federal, state, and company policies, including DOT regulations.
Team Leadership: Manage and train a team of drivers, loaders, and maintenance staff; coordinate with suppliers, customers, and third-party logistics providers.
Budget & Cost Control: Prepare and manage transportation budgets; implement cost-saving strategies and efficiency improvements.
Recordkeeping: Maintain accurate logs of vehicle maintenance, driver hours, cargo, and operational activities.
Problem Solving: Troubleshoot shipment issues, resolve logistics challenges, and collaborate with other departments to streamline operations.
Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or related field.
Experience: 4—6+ years in transportation management, logistics, or supply chain; experience with CDL drivers and heavy equipment preferred.
Proficiency in transportation management software and logistics systems.
Strong knowledge of federal/state transportation regulations and safety standards.
Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to lead and motivate teams; communicate effectively with drivers, staff, and customers.
Familiarity with fleet management systems.
Education/Experience:
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or related field.
- Experience: 4—6+ years in transportation management, logistics, or supply chain; experience with CDL drivers and heavy equipment preferred
Certificates and Licenses:
- Valid Driver’s License: Class A CDL
- Must possess or be able to obtain Real ID identification within 30 days of hire
- Must possess a current, valid passport for travel requirements
Computer Skills:
- Based computer skills required
Communication Skills:
- Ability to understand and follow instructions.
- Must have an ability to communicate effectively with others and serve as a team player to both departmental and organization team members.
Attendance Expectations:
- The position requires regular and predictable attendance. Scheduled shifts may include evening hours, weekends, and holidays.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule is required.
- Role is not remote and must regularly be performed in the assigned office location.
Physical Demands:
- Frequently sits, manually manipulates and lifts/carries/pushes and pulls up to 10 pounds. Occasionally stands, walks, reaches outward and above shoulder level, bends and squats.
- Occasionally lifts/ carries/ pushes and pulls up to 50 pounds.
- Must be able to get in and out of all fleet vehicles and sit for prolonged periods of time in vehicles.
Environment Demands:
- Fast-paced, often requiring coordination across multiple locations and shifts. May involve travel to depots, loading areas, and customer sites.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines is essential. Frequent short-notice travel may be required.
- Employee may have exposure to unpleasant elements such as extreme temperature, dirt, dust, fumes, loud noises, chemical, and poignant odors. Work related travel by car or plane may be required.
This role subject to International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) requirements and as such, U.S. Citizen, Permanent Resident or U.S. Person Status Required.
