The Senior Packaging Engineer will support the optimisation of packaging and warehouse processes, focusing on continuous improvement and operational efficiency within the supply chain.
Reporting to the Packaging & Warehouse Continuous Improvement Manager, this role is responsible for implementing process improvements, supporting packaging standards, and working with cross-functional teams to drive improvements in line with lean manufacturing principles.
Key responsibilities include:
Process Optimisation:
Assist in analysing packaging and warehouse processes to identify inefficiencies and areas for improvement, with a focus on 'One touch logistics.'
Support the development and implementation of material flow optimisation from 3PL to lineside, minimising lineside space utilisation.
Help define, implement, and manage packaging standards to improve component handling and transportation efficiency.
Maintain and update the 'Plan for every part' (PFEP) database, ensuring it aligns with cross-functional business needs.
Contribute to the development and improvement of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to streamline warehouse and packaging operations.
Apply lean manufacturing tools and methodologies (e.g., Six Sigma, Kaizen) to support process improvement initiatives.
Support the management of returnable container systems to enhance visibility of company-owned packaging within the supply chain.
Assist in optimising 3PL space and resource utilisation.
Project Support:
Assist the manager in leading continuous improvement projects, ensuring on-time and on-budget delivery.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams including production, quality, supply chain, and engineering to ensure alignment and successful execution of projects.
Support logistics and packaging-related deliverables for new vehicle launches.
Data Analysis:
Collect and analyse operational data to identify trends and root causes of inefficiencies, contributing to improvement initiatives.
Use data-driven insights to recommend and implement enhancements to packaging and warehouse processes.
Team Support and Training:
Assist in training warehouse and packaging teams on continuous improvement methodologies and lean principles.
Foster a culture of proactive problem-solving and continuous improvement among the team.
Quality and Compliance:
Ensure packaging and warehouse processes align with industry standards, safety regulations, and company policies.
Design capability for packaging materials.
Help implement quality control measures to maintain high standards of product integrity and customer satisfaction.
Resource Support:
Support the management of resources such as personnel, equipment, and materials to improve operational efficiency.
Work with suppliers and vendors to identify packaging improvements that reduce costs and environmental impact.
Performance Monitoring:
Assist in tracking key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the effectiveness of continuous improvement efforts.
Provide data and updates to the manager on operational performance and ongoing improvement activities.
