The Role
As a member of the Connected Vehicle Experience Research Lab, you will be working with the Biosensing, Information Display, & Simulation group. You will be applying your expertise in autonomous vehicles, robotics, human factors, biometrics, and data science for developing innovative approaches to human-robot interaction in both automotive and manufacturing contexts. As a researcher in this group, you will implement your solutions on vehicles and in manufacturing environments and publish your research findings in peer-reviewed journals to extend the reach of General Motors’ development of next-generation technology. This will also include interfacing with universities, research institutes, and other advanced technology laboratories to build a network for amplifying your research.
What You'll Do
- Develop human-robot interface solutions for automated driving-enabled vehicles and robotic systems for manufacturing
- Create tools to aid in the development or deployment of human-robot interface solutions
- Conduct user studies to enable evidence-based decisions about human-robot interfaces
- Participate in government-funded research work, such as the NASA Lunar Terrain Vehicle
- Document your research through internal and external publications
- Facilitate technology transfer via active participation in cross-functional teams
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)
- MS Degree in a science, technology, engineering, or mathematics-related field
- Research experience in at least one of the following areas: Autonomous Vehicle Technology, Connected Vehicles, Advanced Wireless Technology, Robotics, Zero Barrier Mobility/Accessibility, User Experience, Displays, HMI, Simulation, or other related areas
- Strong theoretical, experimental or software programming skills
What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)
- PhD in a related area
- Familiarity with ROS or ROS 2 robotics framework
- Hands-on experience with biometric-based user interfaces
- Experience with data analysis or AI/Machine Learning for engineering applications
- Hands-on experience with wireless communication using Wi-Fi or Bluetooth
- Demonstrates leadership in field of study, extra-curricular activities, or service organizations
