Work Arrangement:
Hybrid: This role is categorized as hybrid. The successful candidate is expected to report to the GM Global Technical Center in Warren, MI three times per week, at minimum.
The Role:
As the Staff Technology Manager for Connectivity, you will lead the development and execution of GM’s connectivity hardware strategy, enabling next gen connected vehicle technologies such as Cellular, Satellite, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, UWB, GPS, and PLC.
Customers expect vehicles to seamlessly integrate into their digital lives—connecting devices like phones, or gaming controllers, and ensuring continuous internet access to the Vehicle to power their connected Apps, Devices or getting new features/ fixes on their Vehicles. Meeting these expectations requires selecting and integrating the right connectivity technologies that can meet the current and future customer needs.
An essential part of this role involves leading the hardware design for vehicles set to launch years down the line. This means staying ahead of industry trends—identifying emerging technologies that are relevant to GM, showcasing the potential experiences these technologies can enable for our customers, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to shape the technology roadmap and ensure seamless integration into future GM vehicles.

What You’ll Do:

Engage with suppliers and ecosystem partners to monitor trends in 4G/5G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, UWB, BLE, and emerging technologies.

Incorporate customer feedback, tech trends, and usability data to guide ongoing product development and inform future hardware roadmaps.

Create clear, compelling documentation outlining the value, use cases, and integration paths for new technologies.

Identify optimal integration points for connectivity hardware across GM’s vehicle portfolio, considering product lifecycle, architecture, and strategic priorities.

Lead competitive benchmarking, teardown analysis, and technical evaluations to drive cost, space, and performance improvements.

Define and track KPIs to measure the impact and success of deployed hardware solutions.
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications):

3+ years working on technology-powered digital products in roles such as product management, or technology development.

7+ years working on any of the Connectivity Technologies listed: Cellular, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Satellite, Ultrawideband, or NFC.

Proven ability to balance tradeoffs between consumer expectations, business objectives, and technical constraints.

Demonstrated expertise in writing, with the ability to effectively balance and integrate vision, strategy, and technical details in a cohesive narrative.

Strong communication and storytelling skills, with the ability to articulate complex concepts effectively across stakeholders.

Advanced educational background (Masters – Engineering/ MBA preferred).

10+ years working on any of the Connectivity Technologies listed: Cellular, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Satellite, Ultrawideband, or NFC.

Experience working with Connectivity and Telematics Systems
Company vehicle:
Upon successful completion of a motor vehicle report review, you will be eligible to participate in a company vehicle evaluation program, though which you will be assigned a General Motors vehicle to drive and evaluate. Note: program participants are required to purchase/lease a qualifying GM vehicle every four years unless one of a limited number of exceptions applies.
