Job Role
The Test Engineer has the responsibilities to ensure the functionality, performance and reliability of the main engine components, through dedicated measurements directly on engine/vehicle and tests set up with different benches and instrumentations. Expert on data acquisition systems and related tools for measurements, he performs accordingly dedicated tests with on site available benches and test rigs that embrace different items ( structural / fatigue, vibrations, timing / auxiliary drive systems). He manages components field claims for proper analysis to help Design Responsible on finding the root cause , supporting production plants & suppliers giving fast feed-back on quality items. The role requires team working skills and strong collaboration with all function involved, from Chief Engineers and DRE , to Quality Team and Suppliers.
Responsibilities
- Set-up test plan activities in agreement with Testing Team Leader and together with the Development Managers of the different components/sub-systems defining measurement or test type, timing, tools and output
- Properly define and set up dedicated benches for components analysis, characterization and testing to assess correct functionality and reliability ( Fatigue , Vibrational, Timing and FEAD dedicated test rigs)
- Perform appropriate dedicated measurements on engine test bench and vehicles with dedicated instrumentations for different topics (accelerometers, lasers, optical fibers, thermocouples, ecc with related data acquisition systems )
- Manage testing data acquisition, recording & data post processing with complete reports according to procedures and Team Leader requests
- Assure technical supervision on specific instrumentation needs,installation and functionality.
- Inspect and analyze pre-post testengine and components for functional and durability behavior analysis and troubleshooting
- Manage failures data sharing into the team or vs Quality Dept, Plants etc.
- Technical supervision / analysis on engines, components coming from the field
- Support production plants & suppliers giving fast feed-back on quality items
- Highlight critical situations and build up recovery plans or improvement activities
Basic Qualifications:
- A minimum of a Bachelor of Science degree in Applied Physics, Mechanical, Electrical, Computer Engineering, Computer Science from an accredited school or equivalent
- A minimum of experience in a related field is preferable
- Knowledge on main engine functionality from combustion, structural mechanism , timing and vibrations
- Good knowledge of engines and layout.
- Good knowledge on Data Acquisition Systems ( LMS Test LAB, FAMOS , ecc ) and tools ( accelerometers, lasers, opticals fibers and general sensors for measurements )
- English
- Good Office knowledge
- Strong interpersonal communication, team/leadership skills/experience
Preferred Qualifications:
- Advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering
- Deep knowledge on engine combustion, structural mechanism, timing systems and vibrations
- Already experienced in dedicated measurements with accelerometers and sensors and SW for data post processing
- Already experienced in component testing
- Critical character traits to ensure success: Action Oriented, Dealing with Ambiguity, Customer Focus, Problem Solving
