Tasks
A comprehensive literature review is required for an in-depth analysis of the damage mechanisms of metals and fiber-reinforced plastics (FRP) during thermal runaway in lithium-ion cells. The insights gained from the literature on damage and failure mechanisms, in conjunction with results from damage simulations, serve as the basis for the design of targeted material characterization tests. These tests are intended to identify key evaluation parameters and the dominant factors influencing damage depending on the material properties and to contribute to the validation and further development of material damage simulations.
Research and narrow down of damage mechanisms caused by thermal runaway and their interactions
Design of surrogate tests to characterize materials for thermal and mechanical resistance
Conduct and evaluate surrogate tests
Characterization and classification of the tested materials based on defined evaluation criteria
Integration of the results into material cards for simulation
Evaluation of materials for use in battery protection systems
