Programme Management
Deliver across the McLaren Applied organisation to deliver innovative, commercially viable products, services and digital assets to time and to budget. We develop solutions for our world-class partner companies and create our own go-to-market innovations. Our team provides the facilitation of product creation and delivery across business and engineering functions through Programme Management roles supported by a project governance framework and product lifecycle process
Through strong knowledge of the external environment, customers and competitors, programme management provides input into market requirements and technologies supporting opportunity development and future products.
Purpose of the Role
Manage a portfolio of technically complex Connectivity and Analytics product and customer solution development activities with a high degree of customer and supplier engagement. The post holder will ensure that development programmes and activities within McLaren Applied in conjunction with Partners are delivered on time, to budget and to the required quality standard on behalf of the organisation. The key products and programmes this role will manage are high bandwidth connectivity and communication systems; covering hardware and software spanning from cloud services to edge applications.
The role is within the Connected Intelligence Business Unit, with a worldwide remit. Primarily focussed on Transportation markets today but spanning the broad IoT domain.
Principal Accountabilities
· Work with Business Managers, Product Managers, Engineering and Operations to make sure Programmes and Projects are scoped to meet product development, customer and bid requirements.
· Manage programme deliverables to scope and in line with the plan with responsibility for the aggregated budget and margin together with business case realisation.
· Manage and motivate delivery teams within the programme, providing leadership, giving both commercial and process guidance to teams to ensure successful delivery.
· Manage and communicate internal/external stakeholder requirements, resolve issues and make decisions in line with business plans.
· Facilitate governance & lead stakeholder management for the portfolio of work – ensure regular reviews of progress, facilitate exception handling and problem resolution. Resolve cross functional issues. Ensure consistency and quality of project reporting and project portfolio risk management for stakeholders and business units
· Ensure appropriate development frameworks, standards compliance and best practices are followed
· Active management of risks, issues and opportunities including management of change from a defined commercial/technical baseline
· Understand the technical deliverables in detail to provide direction in discussions covering customer requirements, prioritisation, issue identification and scope of projects.
· Work with resource owners to resolve potential resource and capability gaps.
· Build close working relationship with customers and our engineering team to facilitate the best customer experience of live products and solutions.
· Define and execute proof of technology and customer trials with input from with Chief Engineers and Product Management.
Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications and Experience
Minimum:
· Engineering degree qualification or equivalent combination of education and work experience in engineering, computer science or software development.
· Extensive customer facing experience in B2B environments.
· Demonstrable experience in programme / project management within a technical environment.
· Excellent stakeholder and people management, interpersonal and communications skills.
· A technical understanding of electronic systems, digital products, software development, service management and engineering best practice.
· Strong record of accomplishment of delivering a project portfolio of mixed discipline engineering solutions through the development lifecycle.
· Proven ability to communicate status of progress, risks and opportunities appropriately to executive management.
· A good knowledge and application of methods, tools and applications in a high-tech engineering business.
· Ability to thrive in an environment of constant change and adapt decisions and priorities accordingly.
· Proven ability to work both across and vertically in medium size organisations.
· A strong negotiator and influencer both internally and externally.
· Balanced skills to see and understand the big picture while managing the important details as required.
· Strong decision making and analytical/problem solving skills
Desirable:
· A working knowledge of Connectivity solutions in transportation, including current products and solutions.
Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications and Experience
· Strong technical background. Preferably a degree in engineering or science discipline.
· Experience conducting BOM analysis and cost management of products
· Experience in working in product management teams in disruptive technology environments.
· Ability to tactfully challenge without alienating and build a strong internal network to support ability to influence.
· Able to interpret and communicate general financial and accounting information from a product perspective and understand the financial impact of decisions.
· Identifies and prioritises issues and takes a proactive approach to dealing with them.
· Thinks creatively to produce workable ideas and novel solutions.
· Takes a collaborative approach to achieving results.
