DLMP SUMMARY:
Penske Entertainment's Diverse Leadership in Motorsports Program (DLMP) is dedicated to providing unique and enriching opportunities to ethnically and/or racially diverse college students who hope to secure full-time employment in the sports and entertainment industries after graduation.
DLMP interns will be a part of the broader College Program, working and learning as members of their respective departments to receive valuable hands-on experience within those fields while receiving ongoing access to programming designed to support a well-rounded experience.
Participants will develop both their personal and professional skills by forming meaningful relationships with experienced professionals, working collaboratively with their cohort, and expanding their knowledge of the Indianapolis community while serving as ambassadors of Penske Entertainment.
In addition, DLMP interns specifically, will engage in a variety of activities focused on Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging. This enhanced programming includes time with various leaders in the broader Indiana sports community to learn about their organizations, their DEI efforts and feedback on the skills and experiences that sports, and entertainment organizations are looking for.
POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the leadership of the INDYCAR Social Media Manager, this position will serve as a valuable member of the social team responsible for assisting in the day-to-day social channel management across INDYCAR owned channels - @INDYCAR and @INDYNXT. The Social Media Intern will have the opportunity to work closely with the Penske Entertainment social media team to bring the overarching social strategy to life through content development, community management, and a continual focus on engaging and growing the fan/customer base. The Social Media Intern will be passionate about social media and content and the role it plays in the fan/customer journey – demonstrating and expanding a deep knowledge of the ever-changing social media landscape.
SPECIFIC DUTIES:
- Assist Social Media leads in day-to-day social publishing, content tracking, and implementation of overarching social strategy
- Continually identify trends and opportunities for community engagement across all social platforms through conversation monitoring
- Create social content, including photography, graphics, and short-form video and writing social copy for assigned posts
- Stay current on latest industry trends and best practices, including emerging platforms
- Able to travel to INDYCAR races, meetings and events as defined by Director, Digital Marketing and other departments
- Enthusiasm for and commitment to the company and the Vision, Mission and Values
QUALIFICATIONS:
Supervisory Responsibilities
- This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.
Education
- Currently pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree (Marketing, Communications, Digital Media, Public Relations, Sports Management preferred)
Skills/Experience
- Experience in social, digital, marketing or content roles
- Understanding of major social platforms (Facebook, X, Instagram, YouTube, TikTok, etc.)
- Experience in Adobe Creative Suite is preferred
- Experience in social listening and analytics tools is preferred (Blinkfire, etc.)
- The person who is selected for this position should be proactive, efficient, flexible, resilient, organized and a team player
- The chosen individual must maintain high levels of integrity and confidentiality. They must be enthusiastic and committed to the company, the Vision, Mission and Values. Ability to work in high-paced environment and on short deadlines

Travel/Work Hours
- Internship begins in February and concludes at the end of September (must be available for all INDYCAR events during this period)
- Requires a minimum of 15 hours per week during the Spring semester and a minimum of 30 hours per week for the duration of the internship
- This job may require travel to INDYCAR events (<10%). There will be weekend and holiday work when race events are held
- Candidate must be able to work overtime as needed

- Must have the stamina to work long hours and must be willing to work an irregular schedule, which may include weekends or evenings.
