Job Title: Contract Specialist
About the Role
As a Contract Specialist at Bp, you will play a crucial role in developing and implementing contracts that drive business growth and profitability. You will work closely with various stakeholders, including procurement, legal, and business teams, to negotiate and manage contracts that meet the company's needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop fit-for-purpose contract templates for procurement
- Drive improved value, compliance, and effective risk management within the sourcing process through effective contract creation, development, and management
- Support operational activities in the Castrol Procurement Function to review contract deviations and obtain necessary SME input where required
- Provide necessary awareness sessions/training and coaching procurement teams on contracting
- Support contract negotiation and development activity where required, and transfer knowledge and skills in the process
Contracting
- Understand the specific contracting requirements of Castrol Business, Procurement, Legal, Ethics & Compliance, and other relevant functions
- Shape the procurement contracting plans and priorities to ensure compliance in the most efficient and effective way
- Actively participate in Castrol business projects that involve contracting
- Coordinate with Legal Teams on Castrol standards & contracting specifics
- Understand Castrol's business objectives and requirements for contracting processes
- Work with the relevant market sector and commodity managers to implement source-to-contract processes to ensure delivery of business plans and market sector/commodity strategies
Contracting Excellence
- Assist in the data-led management of end-to-end category performance by working with the organization and their team to understand demand and ensure strategies that can be delivered effectively
- Own and maintain global contract templates, clause libraries, playbooks, and standard terms to ensure consistency in risk allocation, compliance, and commercial positions
- Ensure templates are updated in line with legal, regulatory, HSE, LRMS, tax, and digital-security requirements through collaboration with SMEs
- Define and govern contracting standards that align with the procurement operating model, category strategies, and S2C processes
Team Integration
- Work within the procurement team, embracing a culture of collaboration, excellence, and continuous improvement
- Act as an advocate for contracting, assist in sharing contracting knowledge across teams to ensure business needs are met
- Help build contracting knowledge across the wider procurement organization to ensure strategy execution
Essential Experience and Job Requirements
- Degree-educated in the legal profession or equivalent relevant professional experience
- Postgraduate qualification related to procurement desirable
Functional Knowledge
- An understanding of contract and risk management principles and some exposure to or experience of undertaking procurement processes and developing contracting strategies
Business Expertise
- Stakeholder management and influencing skills in order to develop a deep understanding of the supported businesses/regions/assets and their priorities, including long-term objectives
Leadership
- Support the team in sharing knowledge with the wider organization in order to support execution of the strategy
Problem Solving
- Analytical thinking to assist in developing and evaluating solutions, as well as judgment to translate business requirements into actionable plans
Interpersonal Skills
- Strong interpersonal skills are essential for collaborating with the category team, engaging with global, diverse partners, communicating impact fully across organizational levels, and handling change effectively
