The role:
The Environmental Group Manager is responsible for coordinating and driving our environmental programs across the GM South America environment. This role partners closely with all functions and operations within Manufacturing, Manufacturing Engineering, Global Environmental Health & Safety, Legal and ICC Leadership to ensure consistent implementation of environmental standards, effective risk reduction, and read-across of best practices across regions.
The Environmental Group Manager will coordinate with site environmental leaders and cross-functional partners on day-to-day environmental operations as well as long-term strategic initiatives to improve risk management, regulatory compliance, and the communities in which we work and live. The role is accountable for fostering a One Team mindset, promoting collaboration, and enabling efficient, standardized environmental processes across all supported locations.
What you will do (responsabilities):

Directs, supervises, and mentors environmental professionals; provides clear expectations, feedback, and development.

Ensures effective coordination of all environmental operations activities

Partners with Business Unit Leaders to plan and execute environmental improvement initiatives; provides visibility into goals, progress, risks, and obstacles.

Develops, monitors, and reports on key environmental performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics

Drives risk reduction and process efficiency in environmental operations:

Collaborates with peers inside and outside the business unit to develop short-term performance goals and long-term strategic environmental goals.

Facilitates cross-site read-across of best practices, lessons learned, and standard work to reduce risk and improve consistency.

Ensures compliance with applicable regulatory requirements and internal environmental standards; supports audits, inspections, and follow-up actions.

Your skills and abilities (required qualifications):

Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, or related field required

Master’s degree (e.g., MBA or related) - nice to have

Availabilty to travel

Fluency in English and Portuguese

Solid experience in safety, environmental health & safety (EHS), operations, or related fields in a manufacturing or industrial environment.

Expressive leadership experience managing environmental or operations teams.

Project leadership experience, including implementation of environmental programs, tools, or process improvements.

Demonstrated experience identifying, implementing, and sustaining process and program improvements in environmental or operations.

Proven ability to lead leaders, influence without authority, and build strong cross-functional relationships.
