We are seeking a Lead Race Engineer to provide technical leadership and engineering support to our racing operations. This position is responsible for optimizing race car performance through data analysis, car specification development, and collaboration with drivers, engineers, and mechanics. The role requires a deep understanding of race car systems and the ability to execute complex projects from concept through implementation.
As a NXT Lead Engineer, your key responsibilities include:
- Collaborate with drivers, engineers, and mechanics to orchestrate race car operations during races and tests.
- Develop and evolve race car specifications to achieve optimal performance.
- Analyze telemetry and performance data to inform setup and strategy decisions.
- Partner with the race strategist to design and execute pit stop strategies.
- Lead and contribute to the direction of race car development programs.
- Create analytical tools and simulation models to enhance vehicle performance.
- Participate in rig testing and off-track performance evaluations.
- Maintain professionalism in all sponsor and fan interactions.
- Ensure the work area and equipment are clean, organized, and race-ready.
- Support other engineering and team projects as required.
To be successful in this role, you’ll need:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
- Prior experience in IndyCar, IMSA, Formula SAE, or team engineering internship.
- Strong understanding of mechanical design, aerodynamics, and vehicle electronics.
- Advanced computer proficiency in Excel, Pi, Motec, VBA, SolidWorks, and MS Office 365.
- Exceptional communication and teamwork skills.
- Proven ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
- Familiarity with race car components, structural systems, and aerodynamics.
- Physical ability to lift timing stand components and pit equipment as needed.
