We are seeking a Support Engineer to join our Indianapolis-based team within the NXT racing program. The Support Engineer provides critical technical and analytical support to the race engineers and broader race team. This role focuses on data acquisition, pit and timing stand systems, telemetry, and performance analysis to help achieve optimal car performance on track.
As a Support Engineer, your key responsibilities include:
- Provide engineering support to race engineers and the race team to maximize car performance.
- Manage and maintain data acquisition systems, including sensor calibrations, dash displays, CAN and telemetry streams, and data loggers.
- Analyze on-track performance data to identify issues, troubleshoot problems, and communicate findings effectively to engineers and drivers.
- Support pit and timing stand operations, including setup, maintenance, and troubleshooting of equipment and electronics.
- Manage radios and intercom systems setup and support.
- Develop and maintain analytical tools, software, and math channels for aerodynamic and vehicle dynamics analysis.
- Assist with driver performance evaluations using logged, GPS, video, and timing data.
- Collaborate with IT for system setup and troubleshooting.
- Uphold safety standards and maintain an organized work environment.
- Represent the team professionally at all times, including sponsor and guest interactions at events.
To be successful in this role, you’ll need:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field required.
- Prior experience in IndyCar, IMSA, Formula SAE, or a professional motorsports internship strongly preferred.
- Strong proficiency with tools such as Pi, Motec, Excel, VBA, SolidWorks, and MS Office 365.
- Excellent analytical, communication, and teamwork skills.
- Understanding of race car systems, aerodynamics, and structural components.
- Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced race environment.
- Must be able to lift timing stand and pit equipment as needed.
