Welcome to the Audi F1 Project. Audi will be competing in the FIA Formula 1 World Championship from 2026. The new team has three locations. Audi's Motorsport Competence Center in Neuburg (Germany) is considered one of the most modern of its kind in Europe. The Sauber Group's Formula 1 factory in Hinwil (Switzerland) is known for its innovative technologies and passion for racing. The Sauber Motorsport Technical Center, UK will be operational this year. Our Power Unit comes from Neuburg, while Hinwil is responsible for the development of the chassis and race operations. What you need? The mindset of an athlete. Your mission
Develop the physics model of the vehicle, including subsystems such as suspension, powertrain, tyre, and aerodynamic representationsDevelop the suspension kinematics model and simulation softwareCollaborate with other departments to design and implement state-of-the-art simulation methodologiesDevelop methods to support trackside operations (mechanical car setup, telemetry data processing, model correlation, etc)Optimize the simulation code for runtime performance and readabilityEnsure all source code is tested, documented, and communicated clearly to key stakeholders
Your profile
Master’s degree or PhD in Engineering, Physics, Applied Mathematics, or related fieldSignificant experience (postdoctoral or industrial) developing mathematical models in various areas, where differential equations (ODE, PDE, DAE) form the main component of the modelsExperience in Formula 1 or other high-level motorsport series is desirableExperience coding in C/C++. Knowledge of C#, Python, Matlab/Simulink, and/or Modelica would also be beneficialSolid understanding of defining and solving models based on systems of differential equations (ODE, PDE, DAE, SDE).Experience developing simulation software for high fidelity numerical simulations, ideally for lap time optimization and Driver in the Loop simulatorGood understanding of Machine Learning approaches and applications, including regression of parameters; good command of data driven models (response surfaces, neural networks, etc)Strong understanding of mathematical optimization methods (e.g. gradient based, stochastic methods, etc)Knowledge of vehicle dynamics, vehicle performance, and trackside operations such as setup procedures and data analysisHighly self-motivated, dedicated, creative, result-oriented, and able to work independently with a very high attention to detailPragmatic with a distinct scientific approach at the same timeStress-tolerant, persevering, open-minded, innovative, and a team playerStrong English language skills
