Job description and duties
Reporting to the Technical Manager, the Performance Engineer is responsible for performance analysis and data for all championships (WEC, ELMS, ALMS). Their mission is to predict, analyze, and understand the performance of existing cars at all events. They will be responsible for working on projects involving in-depth simulation studies and helping to frame technical regulations. They will be heavily involved in hydrogen-related projects and technical regulations.
You will be required to:
Model any type of car and powertrain strategy to evaluate technical regulations paths,
Prepare reports using time/data analysis and simulation, before each event,
Be present at events to carry out real-time analyses of times/data and evaluations of vehicle performance,
Produce post-event reports using time/data analysis,
Develop and validate advanced and tailor-made analysis tools to improve our understanding of vehicle performance on track (driver performance, vehicle dynamics, aerodynamics, powertrain, refueling), as well as competitor strategies,
Improve performance algorithms, statistical analysis tools to produce standardized reports for competitors and manufacturers,
Collaborate with the Electronic Engineer to establish specifications and liaise with control system suppliers (e.g., torque sensors).
Profile sought
You have an engineering degree and at least 10 years of experience in motorsports electronics,
You have 5 years of experience with simulation software (with several types of powertrains such as internal combustion engines, hybrid, electric motors, etc.) and with Matlab, as well as with data analysis software, preferably with Magneti Marelli (or equivalent),
You enjoy understanding and implementing methods from cutting-edge literature in the fields of optimization, statistics and machine learning,
You have good analytical skills and a good ability to summarize,
You have excellent organizational and communication skills,
You have a proactive attitude and the ability to work independently and confidentially,
Fluency in French (spoken and written) is highly desirable,
Fluency in English (spoken and written) is essential for this position,
You are willing to travel frequently: trips are to be expected as needed (10 to 15 trips per year),
You have the desire to work in collaboration with several stakeholders: FIA, IMSA and ACO subsidiaries.
