We are looking for a Computational Chemist to join our team in Mannheim, Germany. As a Computational Chemist, you will develop and establish computer-aided methods to support the development of lubricants and additives. You will work in an interdisciplinary development environment together with a specialist in statistics (DoE), an engineer for EHL and contact mechanics simulation, and an IT expert/data engineer.
Your tasks will include:
- Molecular modeling of base oils and additives
- Supporting the development of new raw materials for lubrication
- Simulation of surface, adsorption, and tribochemical processes
- Conducting and evaluating molecular dynamics simulations
- Building QSPR and machine learning models to predict tribological properties
- Virtual screening of new application materials and lubricant formulations
- Participating in digital twins of tribological systems
- Supporting the interpretation of analytical data
- Conducting projects with external partners
- Close cooperation with development and application technology
You will be characterized by:
- Completed studies (ideally with a doctorate) in chemistry, computational chemistry, physics, or materials science
- Comprehensive knowledge in at least one of the following areas: density functional theory (DFT), molecular dynamics (MD), reactive force fields (ReaxFF), QSPR, or scientific machine learning
- Programming skills, preferably in Python, as well as experience in scientific data evaluation and automation
- Interest in industrial research and practical product development
- Ability to work in an interdisciplinary team in a technical environment
- Structured, analytical way of working and enjoyment of complex physical-chemical questions
- Very good communication skills in German and English
