The Role
GM Advanced Vehicle Execution (AVE) seeks a high-performing Designer to develop math and design solutions for subsystems and components on low volume vehicle builds and special projects. This role demands creativity, initiative, and independent critical thinking while collaborating with cross-functional teams to resolve issues. The ideal candidate will apply Engineering Best Practices, Manufacturing Requirements, and transforming designs into reality. Expertise in NX, Teamcenter, Teamcenter Visualization, and Microsoft Office is required.
This position will focus on Interior/Exterior Design execution expertise with an extensive A-Surface background. Desired skills include creating drawings in NX, prototype fabrication (additive manufacturing/flex fab), fixture design, Teamcenter data management, and functionality of prototype shop equipment.
What You'll Do
- Creates math data models of advanced, complex components, systems, and subsystems from provided specifications and background.
- Creates components and assemblies as necessitated by VAS (Vehicle Assembly Structure)
- Create Manufacturing and Fabrication Drawings within NX as required to build components and assemblies you have designed.
- Develop, refine, and finalize Criteria and Typical Sections
- Develops and Applies Standard Modeling Methods and Processes
- Applies Design for Assembly, Design for Manufacturing, and Best Practices with an Integration mindset to components and system designs.
- Facilitates and participates in Design Reviews, both scheduled and informal workstation reviews, as required.
- Documents and maintains material, mass, and other part specifications within the NX file.
- Independently integrates component subsystem into appropriate assembly structures.
- Performs appropriate studies/alternatives designs and participates in recommendations for program direction.
- Supports lessons learned, updating best practices, and learning sessions with program teams.
- Proactively communicates effectively with all stakeholders.
- Completes system/subsystem parts to meet timing requirements with quality.
- Supports product change management processes.
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)
- 5+ years of experience in product design or a related field
- B.S., A.S., or HS diploma with relevant work experience, technical course work/training or professional certifications
- Expert in NX, Teamcenter, Teamcenter Visualization
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Elevated level of Interpersonal skills to work effectively with others including global partners
- Elevated level of product design concepts and manufacturing processes (i.e. sheet metal fabrication, stamping, casting, machining, etc.) to support Vehicle Builds
- Ability to work independently to solve highly complex problems and lead teams to consensus when needed.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office tools
- Eligible to obtain Secret U.S. Security Clearance after hire.
- Candidate must be a U.S. Person (U.S. citizen, U.S. permanent resident, asylee or refugee).

- Ability to apply advanced tool sets to increase robustness and efficiencies in designs.
- Capability to support multiple projects and adaptability to variable requirements
- Understanding of analysis tools
- Hands on experience with vehicle restoration, electrical/mechanical background, or related hobby experience with a demonstrable portfolio
- Active Secret U.S. Security Clearance as of the first day of work.
This position requires active eligibility to access classified information at the Secret U.S. Security Clearance level for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. The successful candidate must have eligibility to access classified information at that level.
