The Role
General Motors is undergoing a major transformation, both in how we operate and in how we will influence the future of transportation in the EV realm. Our Software Services team is on the forefront of this work, emboldening our culture by seeking out determined, innovative individuals who will join our team to help move us forward and achieve our mission.
We are currently seeking experienced and motivated candidates for the role of Software Engineer - Battery HIL Simulation and Integration. The HIL Engineer role is responsible for creating hardware in the loop environments to enable development, verification and validation of embedded controllers and calibrations for battery, electrification, engine, and powertrain. This position is designed and maintains models using dSpace Simulink and Simscape tools. Simulation allows GM to move the integration and validation tasks earlier in the development cycle. It enables us to release new products and features quicker and to improve our competitiveness in the market.
You will be a GM Entrepreneur that is responsible to deliver finished products on time, meet goals, and tailoring our processes to be more efficient. You will utilize Lean Manufacturing principles and DFSS knowledge to improve exponentially in what you accomplish and raise the quality in what you contribute to GM.
What You'll Do:
- Work closely with software development, calibration, and validation stakeholders to identify solutions to customer needs.
- Lead independently and create and maintain simulation models (such as Plant, sensors and actuators, serial data communication and controller models) for test environments.
- Understand and apply DFSS tools and methodologies. Incorporate Lean Manufacturing and thinking into daily process as a HIL Engineer.
- As a leader, create close partnership with test environment users to root cause and address unexpected test results and resolve issues encountered during test execution.
- Independently plan, communicate, and coordinate test environment strategy and model/hardware rollout to support applications and features requested by user community as needed.
- Lead the design HIL bench and automated tools
- Lead cross functionally with sources of models and equipment to make sure that common models and other simulation assets are shared between test environment domains and architectures.
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications):
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Mechatronics, Mechanical, Electrical, Software or Computer preferred)
- 3+ years of experience in complex design of models with real time simulation
- 3+ years of experience in HIL design and integration
- 5+ years of experience in automotive engineering
- 5+ years of experience in applying DFSS tools and methodologies to solve problems.
What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications):
- Master’s degree in engineering (Mechatronics, Electrical, Software or Computer preferred)
- Experience with commonly used HIL bench tools, such as ETAS INCA, Lauterbach, CAN (CANalyzer or Vehicle Spy), software code generation, Python, etc.
- Experience with SDV2 Architectural Design
- Demonstrated leadership and success in software-in-the-loop (SIL) or hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) methodology development & deployment.
- Experience as a Controls, Software, or Calibration Engineer
