About the Role:
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an engineer within our Composite Assembly Manufacturing Department. This area is responsible for the manufacture of all key composite components and assemblies that form the Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One car such as the chassis, gearbox carriers, wings, bodywork and engine components. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the designed components are transitioned into manufacture allowing for the most efficient part manufacture in terms of quality, lead-time and cost.
Key Responsibilities:
Positively contribute to focus areas within Operations, Health & Safety, Quality, Delivery and Cost Reduction.
Collaborate with the design and manufacturing teams, being responsible for ensuring the assembly processes are robust and capable.
Generate internal assembly instructions to enable manufacturing and control of build quality and lead time.
Identify tooling needs and support the design of jigs and fixtures from concept through to final design.
Oversee prototype and pilot builds, document the build process with standardised work instructions, develop shop aids and route cards.
Identify and reduce product quality issues caused by process variation.
Problem Solving; run root cause analysis to troubleshoot assembly manufacturing issues
Collate quality data, creating monthly metrics providing the manufacturing team with key information to drive quality improvements
Identify and implement process improvement ideas using lean manufacturing techniques.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of the developments within the composite industry and identify technology, equipment, processes that could increase the capability of the team.
Skills/ Knowledge Required:
Degree educated in a relevant engineering discipline is advantageous
Knowledge of composite materials and manufacturing processes gained in Formula 1, Automotive, or similar industry.
Experience in writing process documentation or standard operating procedures
Ability to use 3DX, CATIA V5 or similar CAD package for the interrogation of models.
Ability to interpret drawings, technical specifications, and product control documentation.
Proficient computer skills including MS Office. Knowledge of SAP desirable.
Able to produce project plans and manage small scale projects.
Understanding of RCCA principles including practical problem solving.
Experience in Design for Manufacture and Lean Manufacturing is desirable.
Promotes new methods / process equipment and evaluates special material requirements.
Candidate Profile:
You will have a strong background in composite manufacturing.
Experience in other industries to challenge the way in which we operate as a Formula 1 team.
High motivation with good organizational and analytical/technical problem-solving skills.
Strong capability to work well in a team-based environment, promoting teamwork.
Flexibility to work outside of role as and when required to support team activities.
Technical writing skills to document and update any guidance or work instructions as well as engineering procedures and reports.
Accept versatility within role to flex with workload and priorities.
A well rounded and competent Engineer.
