The Composite Chargehand technician is the shift lead within Composite Manufacturing, overseeing, coordinating, and carrying out tasks in line with the production plan.
The role ensures all work meets quality requirements, adheres to operational standards and procedures, and upholds strict cleanliness practices. It also requires correct use of PPE, disciplined handling of tools, and maintaining a safe, controlled working environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Team Leadership & Support: Work closely with the Composite Team Leader, support workshop decisions, and lead a shift team of technicians by providing guidance and supervision to meet production goals.
- Production & Quality Assurance: Oversee composite manufacturing operations in line with technical instructions, drawings, and approval processes, ensuring right-first-time (RFT) quality and in-process inspections.
- Standards & Compliance: Maintain adherence to ISO certification, 6S lean methodology, company policies, and health & safety obligations across all operations.
- Systems & Documentation: Ensure accurate and timely updates in MES and production management tools while following all technical documentation and protocols.
- Tooling, Equipment & Environment: Manage and prepare tooling and equipment per specifications, ensuring safe, clean, and controlled workspaces to required standards.
- Continuous Improvement & Flexibility: Use initiative to reduce lead times through forward planning and remain flexible with working hours to support business needs.
- Liaise with engineers and quality teams to resolve production issues.
Key Competencies:
- Expertise & Technical Skills: Extensive knowledge of composite manufacturing processes, including Laser Projection (LP): strong skills using hand tools, equipment, and plant: able to read and interpret technical drawings and work to tight tolerances.
- Leadership & Teamwork: Confident leader with effective communication skills: able to work under pressure in a team environment: support apprentices and provide guidance to meet production goals.
- Attention to Detail & Problem Solving: Conscientious, methodical, and self-motivated: strong focus on accuracy, quality, and resolving issues efficiently.
- Flexibility & Continuous Improvement: Willingness to work additional shifts as needed: actively champion continuous improvement initiatives throughout the department.
