Work Arrangement
This role is categorized as onsite. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to the GM Tech Center in Warren, MI on a full-time basis.
The Role
GM Design's Appearance Quality team is looking for a Launch Lead for the evaluation of appearance and aesthetic design intent across multiple vehicle and mobility programs to ensure compliance to GM standards for color, grain, gloss and overall quality appearance of production parts and the product as a whole. You will work closely with internal customers and external suppliers to achieve overall vehicle harmony. You will thoughtfully manage various appearance activities necessary to meet required targets.

Responsibilities
- Evaluate Production Parts for compliance to GM Masters and Standards for Color / Grain / Gloss and overall quality appearance
- Coordinate & Conduct Interior and Exterior Vehicle Appearance Harmony Reviews (color/grain/gloss) in Warren and at the Vehicle Assembly Plants
- Document Program Status of Appearance Approval Reports (AAR’s) and Vehicle Harmony
- Work with Suppliers, GM Engineering and Supplier Quality to resolve Color, Gloss and overall appearances issues identified during the reviews for PPAP Appearance Approval (AAR submissions) and Vehicle Harmony
- Travel as required – up to 10% domestically and internationally within North America (more around Program Launch Timing)
- Has a sense of urgency to manage appearance activities to meet required dates
- Communicates information to and from internal and external customer organizations
- Coordinates and consults with departments outside Appearance Quality, such as engineering, manufacturing, Supplier Quality and Program Quality.
- Actively participates in improving processes, identifying inefficiencies and drives process change
- Support Globalization of Appearance Harmony Process
- 10% travel demomestically and within North America
Qualifications
- Must pass Color Discrimination Test (Munsell-Farnsworth) with a score of < 16
- 5+ Experience in the areas of appearance quality preferably color/grain/gloss & overall vehicle harmony for conformance to appearance requirements.
- Knowledge of materials/paints/manufacturing processes and their appearance attributes
- High level of written and oral communication skills, especially in the language of color/grain/gloss
- Ability to create and deliver effective presentations to Management, with Managerial Courage.
- Demonstrates high level of interpersonal skills to work independently and effectively with others.
- Knowledge of computer software as it pertains to engineering – especially excel (documentation, charts) and PowerPoint.
- Bachelors Degree or equivalent experience in the areas of materials, chemical, manufacturing, and automotive.
