Work Arrangement
This role is categorized as on-site. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to GM Japan Headquarter office in Tokyo, Japan full time.
Work involves functioning as technical liaison between Purchasing, Engineering, Manufacturing, and suppliers to resolve quality issues, implement and monitor advanced quality planning, and provide technical support at suppliers. Work is of a technical nature, using independent judgment within the limits of general practices and standards. Some guidance from the supervisor is available to handle unusual situations. Extensive travel required. This function is a key part of General Motors Supplier Quality activities in global. This function identifies suppliers and work with them to improve performance in quality, service, and price. Work is of a difficult nature in involving a high level of creativity and initiative.
What You’ll Do -
- Assess supplier’s quality systems and perform on-site audits at supplier manufacturing locations
- Ensure the supplier understand GM’s supplier quality requirements and comply with them.
- Monitor and support supplier’s implementation of APQP, PPAP for flawless launch
- Develop and execute plans to ensure supplier quoted capacity is achieved through use of Run@Rate process
- Monitor and develop current suppliers’ quality performance
- Support suppliers in identifying and resolving quality issues during product development and series production
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)
- Proficiency as Supplier Quality Engineer, Quality Assurance Engineer, Quality Control Engineer, Quality Management System internal auditor or Manufacturing Engineer in Automotive industries
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and think analytically to solve complex problems
- Demonstrated ability to lead, motivate and facilitate group (internal and external)
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and lead diverse cross functional teams simultaneously
- Excellent oral, written and presentation and communication skills.
- High level of interpersonal skills to work independently and effectively with others.
- Experience in implementing APQP (Advanced Product Quality Planning), PPAP (Production Part Approval Process) and Run@Rate/OEE (Evaluate Overall Equipment Effectiveness)
- Experience using problem solving tools such as 8D, Red X, DFSS, FTA/5-Why/Fishbone
- Demonstrated knowledge of AIAG Core Tools, FMEA (Potential Failure Mode and Effects Analysis), SPC (Statistical Process Control), MSA (Measurement Systems Analysis)
- Proficient in print reading and interpretation, part measurement, gage design and function
- Ability to travel up to 60-70% (daily commutable and overnight combined), overall flexibility due to frequent plan changes driven by unforeseen quality issue
- Ability to support off-hour meetings as needed for emerging issue support
- Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Welding, Plastics, Material or Chemical) or equivalent technical experience
- Strong personal computer skills (Microsoft Windows and associated software including Excel, Word and PowerPoint)
- Native fluency in Japanese language
- Proficient oral and written communications skills in English
