General Motors Pontiac Pre-Production Operations have needs for qualified Experimental Auto Journeypersons. Working under minimal supervision, the Experimental Auto Journeyperson is responsible to build properties used for test validation of the product design as well as an evaluation of the manufacturing processes.
Job Description:
- Required Skills/Qualifications:
- Follow established safety procedures according to OSHA standards and company procedures
- General Machining Skills
- Basic Computer skills – Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
- Accurately record/input assembly and teardown data into computer
- Assemble ground-up, pre-production engines, transmissions and electric drive units
- Teardown and analysis of pre-production engines, transmissions and electric drive units
- Identify proper fit and function of engine, transmission and electric drive unit components
- Read blueprints utilizing geometric tolerancing and specifications
- Perform vehicle alterations for Engineering’s prototype parts
- Work with Production, Engineering and peers in a team environment
- Interested individuals must meet the following minimum qualifications:
- U.S. Department of Labor Completion of Apprenticeship Certificate as an Experimental Auto Journeyperson or six (6) years of documented experience in a related field such as Vehicle Mechanic or Vehicle Technician (notarized documentation required)
- Must be able to satisfactorily complete the General Motors hiring process requirements which includes comprehensive assessments, drug testing, and a background check
- At least 18 years of age
- Eligible to work in the United States
- Must be willing to work flexible shift hours and day, afternoon, or night shift as well as overtime hours daily, weekends and holidays on those shifts with little notice

- This position may be filled with a Journeyperson or Journeyperson In Training, the compensation ranges for a JIT include ($36.54- 42.63) or Journeyperson rate of ($43.50). Certificates/credentials and scoring in interview will determine your status and pay.
General Motors UAW hourly employment offers a very competitive compensation and benefit package. An annual incentive payout is also available, as qualified.
Relocation and travel expenses will be the responsibility of the applicant.
