Job Purpose
This role provides high-quality, sophisticated legal advice and counseling in the areas of regulatory risk (including independent analysis of compliance risk), developing legal strategy to support business initiatives (including consumer privacy and policies & procedures), providing legal guidance to ensure business operations compliance (including addressing specific legal questions from American Honda Finance Corporation (AHFC) offices nationwide) and advising legal strategy for all aspects of business operations (including handling litigation.) in a timely and cost-effective manner for AHFC and any related subsidiaries. From time to time, this role will also provide services to directly support AHM's sales operations and Law & IP projects. Specific tasks can include developing policies to address regulatory areas in the financial services industry, communicating directly with business operations with their specific questions on the application of law to the business, and providing legal support to enterprise-wide projects. The Counsel II, Sr. Principal will analyze, review, and advise on policies and procedures, develop and apply expertise in state and federal law to business operations, retain and supervise outside counsel in the handling of research, legal advice, and administrative hearings, and provide legal education/training to various Honda entities.
Key Accountabilities
The Counsel II; Sr. Principal will strengthen financial services experiences through identification of operational and regulatory risks and ways to mitigate those risks both generally and specifically related to state and federal laws including, but not limited to, the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), Servicemembers Civil Relief Act (SCRA), the Equal Credit Opportunity Act (ECOA), the Unfair, Deceptive, or Abusive Acts or Practices (UDAAP) Act, and privacy regulations.

The Counsel II, Sr. Principal will apply legal analysis to key business documents, including policies & procedures, memoranda to various departments, and written guidance to the business operations, as well as advising about contracts and agreements with other Honda companies and with third parties.
The Counsel II, Sr. Principal will manage, support, and resolve litigation concerning regulatory and compliance issues related to AHFC business operations.
Qualifications, Experience, and Skills
Juris doctorate from an ABA-accredited law school and a member in good standing of the bar of the state where they are practicing
California bar admittance
seven (7) to ten (10) years in a major law firm or similar in-house experience with a primary focus on regulatory and compliance risk
Experience advising on contractual matters or litigation experience or both, preferred. Other job-specific skills
