Red Bull Powertrains have an exciting Student Placement opportunity within the Power Unit Operations team for an undergraduate student to spend a year as part of our Powertrains journey as we prepare for our first year of racing. The placements will run from summer of 2025 for one year and offer the opportunity to demonstrate your enthusiasm and apply your knowledge in an open and dynamic environment.
The Power Unit Operations team at Red Bull Racing plays a critical role in ensuring the performance, reliability, and efficiency of the car's power unit throughout the Formula 1 season. This department encompasses several specialised areas, including Engine Build, Sub Assembly, Engine Strip, and ERS (Energy Recovery System) Assembly. Together, these units manage the assembly, disassembly, inspection, and maintenance of the internal combustion engine and its hybrid systems. The Engine Build team meticulously assembles race-ready engines to exact specifications, while Sub Assembly prepares key components for integration. Engine Strip handles the teardown and analysis of power units post-race to identify wear or potential issues, and the ERS Assembly team focuses on the complex hybrid systems that recover and deploy energy efficiently during races. This entire operation is supported by a dedicated team of highly skilled technicians whose precision and expertise are vital in delivering peak power unit performance under the intense demands of Formula 1.
In this role, you will be integrated into the whole PU Operations function and support the build admin processes which will include streamlining standard operating procedures, ensuring the correct part documentation is to the specification that is set by the design office and be a critical player in the communication between the technical and operational departments.
Desirable Knowledge and Experience:
- Strong academic background
- On track to achieve a 2:1 degree or above in Engineering, Science or Technology subjects
- Good knowledge of Formula 1 hybrid power units & components
- Hands on / practical mechanical engine experience, especially with ICE Assembly
- Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Word/Excel to enable operation of internal business systems
