Toray Advanced Composites is a global player in lightweight and ultra-strong composite materials for aerospace, motorsport and defense. Our UD (uni-directional) tapes are used in advanced production processes at leading customers, including aircraft manufacturers such as Airbus and Boeing. The demand for these high-performance materials is growing rapidly, and to support this growth we are looking for a Process Engineer who will fully focus on the optimization and further development of our UD tape line.
Your role: process monitoring, optimization and innovation
As Process Engineer UD Tape you are the first point of contact for production on the UD tape line. You work closely with operators, engineers and international colleagues from Japan and the US to monitor, optimize and further develop the performance of the process. This includes not only analyzing and improving existing processes, but also preparing for future innovations, such as the introduction of a new generation of tape lines.
In addition to your role on the UD tape line, you are also a backup for the slit lines, where the tapes are cut to size for various applications. This ensures that you gain insight into the entire production process and the coherence between different processing steps.
In addition, we increasingly focus on predictability and preventive maintenance. By analyzing key process parameters, you help to identify trends and deviations, which means you play an important role in improving process stability and product quality. You work at the interface of polymer chemistry and mechanical engineering, where both material behavior and machine performance influence the end result.
What you do specifically:
Monitoring and optimizing the UD tape line, with attention to both material behavior and machine performance;
Analyzing process data and identifying opportunities for improvement based on trends and statistical methods;
Contribute to predictability and preventive maintenance by recognizing deviations in process parameters and translating them into improvement actions;
Support the development of a new generation of tape lines, in cooperation with Japan and the US;
Backup for the slitting lines, to gain insight into the entire production chain and support process optimizations;
Collaborate with R&D and international teams to facilitate product development and process innovations;
Actively engage with operators and maintenance teams to increase production line efficiency and reliability.
Setting more important than background
We are looking for an inquisitive and analytical engineer who looks beyond his or her own field. Because this function involves both material behavior and machine performance, we are open to different technical backgrounds.
A technical higher professional or university education, such as mechanical engineering, polymer chemistry, chemical technology, aerospace engineering or materials science;
Curious and analytical – you use data to understand and improve processes;
Affinity with production processes and preferably experience with SPC, statistics and process control;
Strong communication skills, you work with operators, engineers and international teams;
Hands-on mentality, you spend a lot of time on the work floor to understand processes and people;
Good command of Dutch and English, you interact with international colleagues and customers;
Interested in predictability and preventive maintenance, you think about how we can make processes smarter.
Innovative company with room for growth
Toray offers an inspiring work environment with smart and committed colleagues. You will receive thorough on-the-job training, learning from experienced experts in the field of UD tape production and composite materials. We invest in your growth and give you the opportunity to grow into a specialist or managerial role.
What do we have to offer you?
At Toray Advanced Composites you will work in a pleasant and informal team of hard workers, within an innovative, dynamic and international working environment. The complexity of our products and the dynamics that go with the entire quality process, make the work varied and interesting. Employees are given responsibility and all the space for their own input, personal growth and development.
We supplement this with:
A salary between €3,750 and €4,750 gross per month for a 40-hour working week;
