POSITION SUMMARY
While utilizing Computer Numerically Controlled machinery, operators are responsible for cutting, drilling, shaping and finishing parts and components.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:
- Measure dimensions of finished workpieces to ensure conformance to specifications using precision measuring instruments, templates, and fixtures.
- Mount, install, align, and secure tools, attachments, fixtures, and workpieces on machines using hand tools and precision measuring instruments.
- Listen to machines during operation to detect sounds such as those made by dull cutting tools or excessive vibration and adjust machines to compensate for problems.
- Adjust machine feed and speed, change cutting tools, or adjust machine controls when automatic programming is faulty or if machines malfunction.
- Stop machines to remove finished workpieces or to change tooling, setup, or workpiece placement, according to required machining sequences.
- Check to ensure that workpieces are properly lubricated and cooled during machine operation.
- Input initial part dimensions into machine control panels.
- Confer with supervisors or programmers to resolve machine malfunctions or production errors or to obtain approval to continue production.
- Monitor machine operation and control panel displays and compare readings to specifications to detect malfunctions.
- Clean machines, tooling, or parts using solvents, solutions, and rags. Also responsible for cleaning the shop and ensuring safe housekeeping on an on-going basis.
- Read, interpret, and program CNC machines with data from technical drawings or specifications.
- Calculate dimensions and tolerance using knowledge of mathematics and instruments.
- Set, monitor, and modify tolerance levels and cutting speeds to produce the component or part to specification.
- Inspect produced components or parts to ensure quality and accuracy.
- Must be able to use tools, such as lathes, mills, cutters, and grinders as needed, to perform required requested work.

Education/Experience:
- Must be a team player.
- Needs extensive knowledge of hand tools, drill press, grinders, and other machine shop equipment.
- Requires ability to interpret engineering drawings to manufacture components to tolerance.
- Experience with HAAS/FANUC based CNC controls
Certificates and Licenses:
- Certificate in Machining or a related discipline preferred.
Computer Skills:
- Requires basic computer skills.
- Requires thorough understanding of G&M code programming.
- Requires minimum of 5yrs experience using a CAD/CAM software suite to program lathes and mills- Siemens NX experience preferred.
- Ideal candidate has experience using a PDM system to store and retrieve CAD/CAM data- Siemens TeamCenter preferred.
Physical Demands:
Requires vision (near, peripheral, depth), sense of touch, and ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) – hearing protection, safety glasses, and hand protection. Constantly stands, walks, manually manipulates, lifts/carries 10 pounds or less, and pushes/pulls 12 pounds or less. Frequently reaches outward, lifts/carries up to 50 pounds, and pushes/pulls up to 25 pounds. Occasionally walks, sits, reaches above shoulder, crawls, squats or kneels, bends, lifts/carries up to and over 100 pounds, and pushes/pull to up 100 pounds.

- Must effectively utilize strong communication skills with others in the department and organization.
- Ability to understand and follow instructions.
Verbal and Writing Ability:
- Strong verbal and written communication skills are required. Ability to read and comprehend instructions, correspondence, and memos. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers and other employees.
Math Ability:
- Basic math skills are required.
Reasoning Ability:
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions. Ability to deal with standardized situations.
Attendance Expectations:
- The position requires regular and predictable attendance.
- Scheduled shifts may include evening hours, weekends, and holidays.
- Must be able to work a flexible schedule as needed.
Environment Demands:
Primarily works indoors. Work does involve continuous exposure to hazardous unpleasant elements, such as dust, fumes, chemicals, and poignant odors.
