Research and Development Testing: Dyno and Lab Industrial Placements
Brackley, UK
At The Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Team we are a team of passionate and enthusiastic people who work together to design and develop the cars driven by seven-time World Champion Lewis Hamilton and Grand Prix winner George Russell.
Whether working in our Operations, Technical, Race or Business Support functions, we are all in and aspire to build the greatest team in the history of our sport.
Every individual plays their part. No stone is left unturned in the chase for every tenth of a second. The history of our sport is long and rich, and we are continuing our journey with renewed effort year on year. Record books remember the names of a few, but history is written by the many.
About the Role:
As a Research and Development Testing Industrial Placement, you will offer engineering support to the operations teams within one of our two main test facilities – the Dyno and the Test Laboratory. The projects associated with this role will include:
Support critical performance events such as our Virtual Track Test (Dyno) and Seven Poster Dynamics Test (Lab) to push laptime and reliability to the track.
Conduct business-as-usual tests, which could include characterising cooling components within our thermal test cell or defining mechanical properties for a material via tensile testing.
Produce designs and drawings to resolve feedbacks via CAD, and manage our Engineering Group FDM 3D Printer requests to execute rapid prototyping within the team.
Develop and streamline our existing test processes and methods to make them more robust, quicker to execute, and/or at improved value.
Produce data insights to enable decisions to be made concisely and right first time. This could range from automating analysis of data acquisition during a test to visualising our operational efficiency.
Support with knowledge capture when we learn something through a success or a failure, so that we always strive to perform the experiment better next time.
Note that we will interview for both the Dyno and Lab placements together and make an informed decision on where to place the successful applicants once the process is complete. If you have a strong preference for a specific area you will be able to make this clear during the assessment centre.
