We have a new opportunity to be part of our F1 Evolution team, which is the Aston Martin F1 TPC ("testing previous cars") Programme, in the role of Performance Engineer.
Purpose:
Performance analysis and optimisation of all aspects of a race car and race driver
Significantly and actively contribute to the development of Performance Engineering within the group, with particular focus on optimisation of the car setup, data-driven analysis across the event and support control system optimisation
Proactively provide support to peers within the group and seek help from other engineers for further support where required
Responsibilities:
Besides performance analysis and optimisation of the race car and race driver, it also includes the performance optimisation of the differential, torque map and brake balance settings
Contribute to the development of new analysis methodologies, tools and techniques
Attend all the F1 Evolution events at the track and related DILSim sessions
To produce pre-event documents for the driver and post-event analysis for track activities and DILSim sessions; with a clear emphasis on answering questions related to car performance in a data-driven and even-handed manner; considering all factors which influence overall performance
Proactively discuss requirements and problems with other engineers in the group
Be able to support F1 Race Events if required
To work proactively, responsibly, professionally, and always in compliance with the company’s reporting structure
Maintaining and developing personal skills and knowledge to ensure the best possible results
Any other duties as reasonably requested aligned to the job role
Skills & Knowledge Required
‘Data driven’ strong understanding of all aspects of race car performance optimisation
Though not essential, prior experience in Formula One would beneficial
Have a strong mechanical, automotive or aerospace engineering degree and a minimum of five years’ experience as a Race / Performance Engineer
Be able to demonstrate an innovative and flexible approach to problem solving and possess the ability to work through problems in a scientific and analytical way
Excellent communication skills; be confident in your own decision-making abilities and suggestions for improvements
High levels of accuracy
Maintain high working standards in pressured situations
Be proficient with MAT Atlas and vTAG (or similar), Python, Dashboarding skills, Excel/VBA and lap simulation software
Have experience with driver performance analysis/compares, including driver line analysis, onboard and outboard analysis and GPS data
Ability to demonstrate good working relationships with internal departments and outside suppliers
To be available to travel as and when required to fulfil the requirements of a performance engineer
To be flexible to working hours as required
Be enthusiastic and versatile and be able to build and develop good working relationships with colleagues
Ability to demonstrate a clear understanding of and commitment to Health and Safety
