General Summary:
This position reports to the Team Principal or their designee and is located in Banbury (UK). Responsible for the Sporting Governance and Representation of the team in all sporting matters in relation to the FIA, other teams and motorsport associations and off-track sporting activities. This starts at the planning stage before the season starts to the final delivery at events. Operating within the role in alignment to the Team Principal, HODs and Managers.
Supporting our drivers, along with being responsible for our driver activities. Constantly pursuing professionalism, efficiency, attention to detail, inspiring, encouraging and supporting all areas of the business in achieving best practices in line with the company expectations
Working with our Performance Director and the Technical Director to ensure that we have the culture, resources and environment for our team to succeed.
General Responsibilities:
Manage department personnel from recruitment, onboarding, employee engagement through to separation.
Mentor, train and guide personnel as required. Develop staff using effective performance reviews and development plans.
Promote teamwork and effective communication to develop working relationships between all personnel and departments.
Responsible for establishing standard operating procedures and budgets to maintain a practical yet functional department.
Responsible for the overall performance of the department, ensuring targets and milestones are achieved.
Assumes any responsibilities and duties delegated by the Team Principal or their designee.
Key Responsibilities:
Maintain an open dialogue with the Team Principal and supporting their objectives throughout the season.
Engage with FIA and FOM on all Sporting matters.
FIA Sporting Regulation, attend SAC meetings representing the Team and conversely conveying the points of the Team.
Work with fellow Directors to constantly fine tune the regulations to accommodate the ever-changing sport.
Work with finance group on budget cap control.
Supporting the engineering and operational groups with live sporting regulation decisions.
Be well versed with the ISC articles to support: Contract Recognition Board submissions, Driver Super Licence applications, Team entry applications and articles directly connected to the Sporting Regulations. Seek legal support in the event of protests and appeals.
Budget planning, correlate the budget with the support of direct reports aligned to the areas of responsibility. Budget submission for approval, Budget management and overall control.
Maintain an overview of current and future drivers’ performance to aid the team in understanding current driver performance and guide future driver selection.
Trackside:
Support the team in all planning and operation/travel of the race team.
Assist Engineering on all operational requirements ensuring all engineering led requests are delivered.
Attend race and test events to ensure all FIA matters, Race Control communications and rule clarifications are handled rapidly, accurately and in alignment with the team’s objectives.
When required represent the team and drivers in front of the FIA stewards.
Identify pit stop personnel best position, constantly investigate new processes/procedure and designs to ensure speed and consistency.
Install, encourage and lead by example with a team fitness regime, monitoring progress. Work with physiotherapists, dietitian, to ensure strength and technics are correct to avoid injuries.
Continuously work on and develop targets for the race team operations to move the team forward.
Help to identify performance strengths and weaknesses, and opportunities for improvement within the trackside operations.
Support Marketing and commercial with any on track activities.
Factory:
Work with the Race Team Support Manager to plan factory car builds and freight schedules.
Attend engineering debrief and planning/reliability/faults meetings.
Education and Work Experience:
Higher education in sports event management or sports organization management, with a substantial (8 to 10 years) background in the motorsports industry.
Recent and substantial experience working with Formula 1 Sporting and Technical regulations.
Specialized Knowledge and Skills:
Previous sporting director experience preferred.
Ability to supervise others, communicate, and liaise with fellow workers to get desired results.
Capable of working in a team environment to a very high standard and a positive work attitude.
Strong communication skills, written and verbal.
Work to a consistently high standard in stressful and time sensitive situations.
Quick decision-making skills whilst working through problems in a scientific and analytical way.
Work well within a team environment with personnel at all levels.
Proven experience in successful management roles.
Strong commitment to detail and confidentiality

Equipment and Applications:
Solid computer knowledge, preferred experience in Microsoft Office products and ERP Systems.
Good Mechanical aptitude and understanding of technical drawing and assembly.
Ability to follow complex regulations related to shipment of materials and facility maintenance requirements.
Work Environment Physical Demands:
An ability to work and prioritize within a high pressure, time sensitive environment while retaining a methodical approach is essential. The role may require extensive domestic & international travel and a willingness to work long and flexible hours including weekends.
This position may require lifting to 50 pounds, repeated bending, squatting and manual dexterity. Fast- paced work environment requiring heavy mental demands. Work environment includes machinery, race cars, 7-post and other rigs, grinding debris, and hazardous fluids. All employees must ensure compliance with the Company Health and Safety Policy, and all relevant other statutory Health and Safety legislation.
