General Summary:
This position reports to the Head of Vehicle Science or their designee and is based in Banbury, UK. This position involves working in close co-operation with various departments both at the track and factory based. This position requires support during race weekends from the factory and attendance to a limited number of trackside races and tests.
Key Responsibilities:
General:
Promote teamwork and effective communications to develop working relationships between all personnel and departments.
Follow all safety regulations in all venues.
Other duties as assigned by the Head of Vehicle Science and the Director of Engineering or their designee.
Factory:
Formulate pre-event reporting to support Race Engineering with the event preparation.
Contribute to post-event analysis and reporting of tyre performance with focus on answering specific focus points and improving the performance of the tyres and the tools involved.
Collaborate with tyre science and software engineers on the design and development of tools used to monitor the performance of tyres.
Propose tyre test items, for all trackside and rig testing opportunities and report the findings with a data driven approach.
Review of the testing techniques and suggest changes for improvements.
Manage and maintain the tyre database supplied by the tyre manufacturer.
Manage and maintain the tyre stock supplied by the tyre manufacturer.
Liaise with the tyre manufacturer for any issue related to any supply.
Lead and maintain any collaboration with Electronics and Control System departments in detecting and reporting malfunctioning of sensors and of in-garage monitoring and heating systems. Propose solutions and/or support the investigation with a data driven approach.
Supervise and mentor junior tyre engineers with their contribution to the team activities.
Trackside:
Support race and test events by following the sessions live at the track or from the factory.
Assist Race Engineering, Vehicle Performance and Strategy departments to monitor tyre operation and optimize the car performance.
Lead and co-ordinate track activities related to tyre sets management, such as fitment, post event inspection, sets selection and blankets procedures.
Liaise with the tyre supplier to support all tyre related track activities and to gather all necessary information to aid the understanding of tyre behavior.
Collaborate and assist Electronics and Control Systems department to monitor live the performance of sensors directly and indirectly related to tyres.
Education and Work Experience:
Comprehensive knowledge of all onboard sensors and instrumentations generally used to monitor tyre performance and operating conditions.
Typically requires at least 5 years of experience in a high technology motorsport environment.
Experience in tyre casing and compound designs.
Experience in contact mechanics of rubber compounds.
Specialized Knowledge and Skills:
Strong technical background in racing tyres.
Strong communication skills, written and verbal.
Work to a consistently high standard in stressful and time sensitive situations, whilst prioritising and managing workload efficiently in the presence of multiple inputs/demands.
Quick decision-making skills whilst working through problems in an analytical way.
Work well within a team environment with personnel at all levels.
A sympathetic approach to your work colleagues and an ability to integrate within a group environment.
A can-do positive approach and a willingness to help others is essential.
Equipment and Applications:
Good understanding of MAT-Atlas package to enable management application in vTAG environment.
Excellent knowledge of MS-Office software package.
A good to advanced experience and knowledge of MATLAB & Simulink.
Work Environment Physical Demands:
An ability to work and prioritize within a high pressure, time sensitive environment while retaining a methodical approach is essential. The role may require domestic and international travel and a willingness to work long and flexible hours including weekends.
This position may require lifting to 50 pounds, repeated bending, squatting and manual dexterity. Fast-paced work environment requiring heavy mental demands. Work environment includes machinery, race cars, 7-post and other rigs, grinding debris, and hazardous fluids. All employees must ensure compliance with the Company Health and Safety Policy, and all relevant other statutory Health and Safety legislation.
