Role
The Regional Security Manager serves as the senior regional security
leader for South America, accountable for shaping and executing GM’s global security strategy across multiple countries and complex operating environments. This role collaborates with executive management and senior business leaders to develop, prioritize, and deliver strategic security objectives, while ensuring world‑class protection of our people, facilities, and assets.
In this role, you will oversee security operations, fire protection, technology, investigations, and intelligence across the region, ensuring alignment with Global Security standards. You will own key performance indicators, lead and develop regional security leaders and teams, and influence enterprise‑wide security standards and best practices.
What you will do (responsabilities):

Lead regional security for South America, responsible for shaping and delivering GM’s global security strategy across multiple countries and a highly complex operating environment.

Implement common global security processes, tools, and best practices, providing feedback to continuously improve policies and standards based on regional lessons learned.

Lead regional risk assessments and security planning for executive visits, special events, and high-profile engagements, ensuring appropriate protective measures, intelligence support, and contingencies.

Ensure effective implementation, testing, and continuous improvement of regional and country emergency response plans, including leadership support to Emergency Response Coordinating Teams.

Partner with GM Investigations teams to ensure awareness of relevant incidents, coordinated investigative activity, and timely follow-up on findings and recommendations.

Partner with the Executive Protection team to provide comprehensive regional security support for travelers, executive visits, and critical events.

Develop strong relationships and strategic partnerships with regional business leaders, Global Security leadership, and key functions (HR, Legal, Facilities, Manufacturing, IT, Communications, etc.).

Communicate regularly with stakeholders and senior leadership to align on risk appetite, priorities, and the effectiveness and cost of security programs.

Be visible, available, and engaged across regional sites, participating in leadership meetings, governance forums, and cross-functional committees.

Maintain strong relationships with law enforcement, government agencies, and external partners to support executive travel security and incident response.

Own the end-to-end vendor management lifecycle, including contracts, performance management, SOP and post order development, and SLA/KPI governance.

Your skills and abilities (required qualifications):

Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., Security Management, Criminal Justice, International Relations, Business) or equivalent;

English: Advanced/ Spanish: Advanced is a plus;

Significant experience in corporate security, law enforcement, military, or related fields, including multi‑country or multi‑site leadership responsibility;

Demonstrated success leading complex security programs in a large, matrixed, global organization;

Proven experience in vendor management, including contract negotiation and management, performance management, development and oversight of SOPs and post orders, and governance of SLAs and KPIs;

Strong track record partnering with senior business leaders, influencing strategic decisions, and balancing risk, cost, and operational continuity;

Experience in security risk assessment, crisis management, emergency response planning, and incident management;

Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship‑building skills, including with executive leaders, external agencies, and service providers;

Ability to travel regularly and as needed to assigned sites across South America.
What can you give a competitive edge (preferred qualifications):

Experience partnering with Executive Protection/Protective Services teams to deliver security support for executive travel and high‑profile events.

Advanced degree (e.g., MBA, MS in Security or Emergency Management) or relevant professional certifications (e.g., CPP, PSP, PCI, CBCP).

Fluency in additional regional languages and experience operating in diverse cultural and regulatory environments.

Prior experience in automotive, manufacturing, or similarly complex industrial environments.
