Hybrid: This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Concord, NC three times per week, at minimum. The Role We are seeking a Tire Performance Engineer to support the GM Motorsports NASCAR Tire Performance Team by providing support to the NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series and Craftsman Truck Series race teams. You will be responsible for directly interfacing with the race teams and their respective Engineers as well as the GM Motorsports NASCAR Tire Performance Team – this will include (but is not limited to) – DiL attendance during Team sessions and DiL tire tuning sessions. The role requires weekly reporting of all relevant tire information to aid in the Teams’ setup development. You will attend Motorsports testing when available. In this constantly evolving environment, the GM Motorsports NASCAR Tire Performance Team works with innovative testing and analytical technologies to review tire force and moment (F&M) properties to virtually integrate tire performance to enable vehicle dynamics simulations for original equipment applications as well. What You’ll Do Attend NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series and Craftsman Truck Series race team DiL sessions Attend GM Motorsports DiL sessions to support tire model development Report weekly all relevant tire information needed for setup development Support real-time review of tire model results and DiL outputs to determine required changes to bring in vehicle/tire balance on DiL or offline simulation Domestic travel is required and expected 1-2x/year for 2-4 days in duration; tire testing occurs during the week - limited weekend travel may be required to arrive to the test facility What You’ll Need (Required Qualifications) Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, CAE, or Software Engineering or related field of study 2+ years of engineering experience following the completion of a degree Motorsports experience is required Motorsports data acquisition software experience (Pi Toolbox, MoTeC, Atlas) Demonstrated ability to collaborate with a team, as well as work independently Demonstrated ability to lead a team of engineers Strong organization skills, forward thinking mentality, and a superb attention to detail Ability to multi-task in a dynamic, constantly evolving environment, with exceptional work ethic and integrity What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications) Experience implementing tire models in real-time simulation environments to support Driver-in-the-Loop project activities Race Engineering experience including vehicle setup development using simulation #LI-LP2
