Hybrid: This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Concord, NC three times per week, at minimum. The Role This position is part of GM Motorsports Performance Engineering and will support the IMSA and WEC Sportscar programs. The team is responsible for enhancing on-track performance by guiding long-term vehicle development and delivering event-specific recommendations on vehicle configuration, setup, and race strategy to supported teams. In this role, you will contribute to achieving program objectives through in-depth analysis across multiple domains, including vehicle dynamics, simulation model correlation and refinement, data interpretation from on-track, rig, and Driver-in-the-Loop (DIL) testing, methods development, and competitor analysis and reporting. Success in this role requires strong collaboration with internal GM Motorsports teams, maintaining alignment with race team personnel, and occasional travel to race and test events. What You’ll Do Collaborate with GM supported teams and GM personnel to understand team objectives, contribute to a coordinated development effort, and convey findings to all necessary groups Continuously strive to improve GM Motorsports programs’ tools, analysis methods, and vehicle dynamics understanding by: Reimagining and prototyping new and better solutions to common problems or questions Correlating existing methods and validating new improvements against track and test data Working with GM Software team to implement solutions in our production tools Implement vehicle simulation (desktop, DOE, DIL) and data analysis methods, to develop race winning solutions through: Race-specific setup refinement Conceptual studies to guide big-picture development efforts Competitor analysis and event characterization Race strategy optimization Clearly present findings, recommendations, and analysis results through well organized and actionable reports and in-person follow-up. Work independently and under supervision to accomplish assigned tasks, suggest new tasks based on communicated and/or perceived needs while considering group, program and organizational priorities. What You’ll Need (Required Qualifications) Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Physics, or related subjects. 3+ years of experience in a top-level motorsports series including NASCAR, IMSA, F1, IndyCar, WEC, or similar. Experience with race car setup, race event preparation, technical inspection, race procedures and exposure to basic race and fuel strategy . Knowledge of simulation workflows in a professional motorsports organization including both offline simulation and the DIL simulator. Experience using simulation tools to optimize vehicle performance. Competency with engineering programming languages: Python, MATLAB, or equivalent. Experience analyzing on-track performance through both application of vehicle dynamics principles and statistical methods. Strong organization skills, forward thinking mentality, and superb attention to detail. Ability to multi-task in a dynamic, constantly evolving environment, with exceptional work ethic and integrity. Ability to travel 6-8 times per year domestically with potential for some international travel (1-3 events). This job may be eligible for relocation benefits. What Will Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications) Race/Performance Engineering experience in the IMSA or WEC series. Master’s Degree in Engineering, Physics, or related subject. Proficiency in Motorsports data analysis software including WinDarab, Atlas, Motec or similar. Experience formulating test plans, performing testing, and reducing data trends from K&C, push-up rig, wind tunnel, aerodynamic straight-line, 7-post, and on-track tests. #LI-LP2
