Job Description
As a member of the Department and serving as our Assistant Coach, responsibilities include, but are not limited to, ensuring compliance with Team Penske and all applicable NASCAR rules/regulations. Establishing performance goals and objectives, participation in department meetings, and other activities designed to enhance the overall department performance. The Assistant Coach will work collaboratively with the Athletic Director, Head NASCAR Coach, and all other Athletic Department staff members.
Responsibilites
- Assist in the planning and directing of in-season, post-season, and pre-season team practices.
- Review video using an online video analysis system.
- Analyze and breakdown race and practice video.
- Organize and provide detailed race reports from the video analysis.
- Take directions from the Athletic Director & Head Coach while keeping in mind the safety and well-being in all training sessions, conditioning activities, practice activities related to strength and conditioning program. Provide athletes with instruction regarding physical health and safety.
- Work collaboratively with Penske’s Certified PT/ATC’s to support the rehabilitee injuries as appropriate in the Strength and Conditioning program.
- Support the AD, Head Coach and Department, as needed, in counseling and advising athletes regarding, setting goals, appropriate social conduct and other life skills topics, as well as other personal and sport related issues.
- Attend and participate in appropriate national or regional professional development and continuing education clinics and/or conventions to improve and increase overall knowledge of coaching.
- Ensure and monitor an inventory control system for all equipment and supplies.
- Identify problems and/or concerns regarding facilities and work with the respective administrators on facility maintenance.
- Attend all scheduled staff meetings, unless excused by the Director of Athletics.
- Complete various assigned reports and submit to immediate supervisor in a timely manner.
- Meet weekly with the Athletic Director and Athletic Director staff to review athlete and administrative evaluations and establish personal and professional goals and objectives for the following year.
- Assist in recruiting and combine tryout sessions.
- Travel to races and provide coaching to all Penske Sponsored Pit Crews as needed.
- Evaluate film at the track and make accurate and timely decisions regarding tight vs. loose wheels.
- Perform Sunday video breakdowns for all Pit Crews from the weekend (CUP & Xfinity).
- Work directly with the Head Coach to have all Breakdowns/Coaches Reports completed by 10 AM every Monday following each race weekend.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree preferred but not mandatory.
- Knowledge and experience with racing and pitting race cars preferred but not required.
- Extensive knowledge of computer programs related to word processing, spreadsheet, and database software applications.
- Excellent organizational, interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
