About the Role:
We are seeking a Head of Engineering Software to lead the strategy, development, and integration of all software systems within the Performance Capability Department. Reporting into the Chief Engineer – Performance Capability, this role is pivotal in shaping how data, simulation, and analysis technologies drive car performance, spanning from real-time systems in simulators and dynos to HPC-based analytics, ML pipelines, and trackside applications.
Key responsibilities:
As our Head of Engineering Software, your responsibilities will include:
Lead and coordinate software development across three groups, ensuring alignment with departmental objectives.
Define and deliver the long-term software strategy for simulation, data systems, and engineering platforms.
Partner with IT, Engineering, and remote teams to align roadmaps, manage joint projects, and ensure timely delivery.
Act as the technical authority across diverse software domains and technology stacks.
Drive the evolution of the software architecture, promoting common frameworks, APIs, and infrastructure for reuse and maintainability.
Implement innovative technical solutions that improve reliability, quality, and development speed.
Develop and maintain a high-quality SDLC tailored to the fast-paced demands of F1.
Ensure consistent adoption of shared software infrastructure to enable coherent tool evolution.
Identify and deliver opportunities for continual improvement and performance advantage.
Track emerging technologies and define adoption roadmaps that enhance group capabilities.
Prioritise and manage workloads effectively across all teams.
To be successful you will have:
Essential:
Minimum of a Computer Science degree or equivalent.
Demonstrable experience in managing a software engineering team including remote teams, preferably within an engineering environment.
Strong people leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
Hands-on experience developing high-quality software solutions.
Broad technical expertise across software design, development, and deployment, including containerisation, Infrastructure as Code, microservices, artifact management, and build pipelines.
Experience developing data streaming and processing solutions using technologies such as Kafka and Spark
Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, C#, C++, and Golang.
