Work Arrangement:
Hybrid: This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to the Warren Technical Center in Warren, MI three times per week, at minimum.
The Role
We are seeking a Senior Software Development Manager to lead and grow our Digital Commerce engineering team. This Level 9 role requires a hands-on technical leader who thrives in high-performance environments and embodies GM’s values of Innovation, Inclusion, Accountability, and Excellence.
The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in modern technologies with a lot of focus on integration with Oracle and SAP ERP products. The candidate will demonstrate a strong track record of enterprise commerce, payment, billing domain.
What You'll Do
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship across multiple digital commerce initiatives
- Drive architectural decisions and execution for development and integration with holistic order management system
- Engage and create join development effort with front end development team, who run enterprise-grade Shopify storefront implementations
- Champion development and data flow best practices and scalable design patterns
- Collaborate with product, design, and DevOps to align engineering efforts with business goals
- Drive engineering and operational excellence across all teams by delivering consistent, high-quality support and leveraging deep subject matter expertise.
- Participate in code reviews, architecture discussions, and hands-on development as needed
- Ensure delivery of high-quality, secure, and performant software solutions
- Act as a strategic partner and coach to executive leadership, providing ongoing guidance to foster strong, adaptive leadership.
- Act as a change agent, championing the evolution of leadership and people practices that support GM’s identity as a tech-forward employer.
- Generate new perspectives and insights to fuel a culture of innovation, risk-taking, and high performance. Champion leadership accountability and a commitment to employee engagement, inclusion, and enablement.
- Support hiring, onboarding, and career development for engineering team members
- Passion for org leadership which includes assessing team needs, structure the org and roll out change gracefully.
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)
- 12+ years of software engineering experience, including 7+ years in engineering management
- Proven leadership of high-performing engineering teams in fast-paced environments
- Deep technical expertise in Java, Spring boot, Database systems, integration framework, Kafka, SQL
- 3+ yrs Experience in eCommerce, Catalog management, Pricing, Order management system and Payment processing with 3rd party
- Experience with Service ordering – subscription, billing, revenue recognition
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and stakeholder management skills
- Demonstrated alignment with GM’s values and leadership behaviors
What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)
- Experience in high-growth startups or top-tier tech companies
- Familiarity with Zuora, Adyen Plus
- Familiarity with Shopify Hydrogen and integration with Oracle, SAP Plus
- Experience with CI/CD, observability, and agile delivery practices

Compensation : The compensation information is a good faith estimate only. It is based on what a successful applicant might be paid in accordance with applicable state laws. The compensation may not be representative for positions located outside of New York, Colorado, California, or Washington.
- The salary range for this role is 197,600 to 303,800.
- The actual base salary a successful candidate will be offered within this range will vary based on factors relevant to the position.
- Bonus Potential: An incentive pay program offers payouts based on company performance, job level, and individual performance.
