The Role:
The Maintenance Shift Lead oversees daily maintenance operations within a fast-paced automotive manufacturing facility. This role drives the transition from reactive to proactive maintenance, using data-driven analysis to predict failures, reduce downtime, and optimize asset lifecycle management. The ideal candidate will be a hands-on problem-solver with a passion for continuous improvement in a fast-paced, high-volume production environment.
What You'll Do (Responsibilities) :
- Lead, coach and develop a team of Maintenance Group Leaders, fostering a results-oriented, high-performance culture focused on key performance indicators (KPIs) including MTBF, MTTR, and OEE, using data to drive decision-making.
- Champion a strong safety culture within the maintenance department and across the facility. Ensure all maintenance activities are performed in strict adherence to company safety protocols and all federal and state regulations, including OSHA and NFPA standards.
- Promote Global Manufacturing Systems methodologies and lean manufacturing principles within the department.
- Conduct Root Cause Analysis (RCA) for recurring equipment failures to implement long-term corrective and preventive actions.
- Optimize proactive maintenance programs, including predictive (PdM) and preventive maintenance (PM) schedules, to increase equipment reliability and asset lifespan.
- Assist in developing and optimizing critical spare parts lists and inventory levels to minimize downtime related to parts shortages.
- Work closely with production and engineering to support new equipment installation, process improvements, and capital projects.
Your Skills and Abilities (Required Qualifications):
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in maintenance management within a manufacturing environment, with significant exposure to the automotive industry.
- At least 5 years of supervisory experience, demonstrating strong leadership and people development skills.
- Demonstrated experience using a CMMS and analyzing maintenance KPIs (MTBF, MTTR, OEE) to improve performance.
- In-depth knowledge of industrial automation, controls, and equipment typical of an automotive manufacturing facility (e.g., robotics, welding, conveyance systems).
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interface effectively with all levels of the organization.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
- Experience/knowledge of GM Global Manufacturing System (GMS)
- Knowledge of continuous improvement processes (CIP)
