Hybrid: This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Concord, NC three times per week, at minimum. You will also be required to travel and support testing events on-site.
The Role
To strengthen our motorsports testing program, we’re seeking a Motorsport Test Support Engineer to assist with vehicle testing both on-track and in simulated environments. This role supports performance improvements by working with the test team to prepare vehicles, develop test plans using GM simulation tools, DiL simulations, aerodynamic data, and historical race/test data.
You’ll collaborate with GM engineers to analyze performance using tools like Pi Toolbox and MoTeC i2 , support simulation correlation, and assist partner race teams during their testing events. Additional responsibilities include supporting vehicle testing across various rigs (SPMM, Kinematic Rig, CG), bench setups, and virtual environments.
Strong communication skills are essential, especially for clear, data-driven reporting. You’ll be expected to deliver high-quality results on time and within budget. A passion for motorsports and hands-on testing is key. While the current focus is on NASCAR , expansion into IMSA/WEC and IndyCar is possible.
What You’ll Do

Play a key role in test planning and execution both at-track as well as in virtual and test rig environments

Utilize GM simulation to help provide direction and support to test events

Assist GM engineering groups in data analysis to provide feedback to support performance gains

Interact and support key partner race teams at on-track testing events providing data driven feedback to enhance their performance

Provide clear, concise, data driven reporting of processes and results

Communicate frequently with key personnel (GM and Key Partner) both in preparation as well as during testing events

Assist GM Vehicle Systems Engineering and Testing team in various development projects

Tool development for analyzing data or assisting workflows in the test team environment

Help identify areas where GM Vehicle Systems Engineering and Testing can improve to provide performance to key partner race teams
What You’ll Do (Required Qualifications)

Bachelor’s degree in engineering, physics, or a related subject

5 or more years of professional motorsport experience within a professional race team setting

Experience using data analysis software such as Pi Toolbox, MoTeC i2, McLaren ATLAS
-
Knowledge of high-performance vehicle, tire, and aero modeling techniques

Highly analytical, customer focused, and structured, with positive relationship and strong communicative skills

Ability to multi-task in a dynamic, ever-changing environment, bringing a strong work ethic and integrity

Must be a great teammate, be able to work a flexible schedule and have a high level of integrity

Clear verbal and written communication skills

Ability to travel domestically, minimally up to 14 events a year

What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)

Prior NASCAR or equivalent series Race Engineering experience

Strong Vehicle Dynamics background

Strong experience utilizing data analysis software to draw conclusions on vehicle performance

Experience working with DiL simulators, Kinematic, Center of Gravity, SPMM rigs

Knowledge of using a Dymola/Modelica based simulation software or equivalent

Exposure to Matlab, Python, or equivalent software to assist in some small tool development
