GM Defense (GMD) continues a 100-year legacy of designing, validating, and manufacturing vehicles and equipment in support of defense and other government customers. Within GM Defense, the recently created Autonomous Driving and Robotics group is charged with adapting, integrating, and enhancing GM’s automated driving capabilities to the needs of GM Defense customers.
The Role
As a program team member, the Assistant Program Purchasing Manager (APPM) with GM Defense is responsible for leading GPSC program team deliverables across all system teams by working collaboratively with Program Team! The Assistant Program Purchasing Manager leads the execution of strategies to achieve program profitability targets and key deliverables for Global Purchasing & Supply Chain (GPSC). This business individual will provide direction to keep the program timely, within budget, with quality, while aligning with the Program Team!
What You'll Do (Responsibilities)
- Use non-traditional strategies and creativity to navigate unique issues
- Embrace a Go Fast mentality to perform in a face spaced environment
- Achieve program profitability/EBIT targets on the vehicle architecture
- Communicate volume changes, content, footprint changes, etc.
- Actively work with GM Customs to ensure USMCA Compliance
- Support various sourcing activities and commodity strategies
- Review financial and operational metrics within Program/Purchasing forums
- Support New Technology adoption
- Coordinate and prepare GPSC deliverables & Program Gate Reviews for leadership
- Support Launch Excellence
- Support global programs and sourcing alignment
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)
- Bachelors degree
- 5+ years of post-graduation work experience in Direct Purchasing or Program Purchasing, supply chain or relevant experience.
- Strong business acumen, interpersonal verbal and written communication skills while maintaining the ability to prioritize tasks, balance multiple Programs simultaneously and meet deadlines
- Coordinate internal and cross functionally issue escalation process
- Demonstrate ability to manage ambiguity and work independently
- Familiarity with commodity structure, component architecture & supply base strategy
- Familiarity with program & sourcing process timelines
- Ability to travel at least 5% of time, including international travel
- Candidate must either be a U.S. Person (U.S. citizen, U.S. permanent resident, asylee or refugee) or a non-U.S. Person who is eligible to obtain any required export control authorization.
What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)
- Defense industry experience
- Experience with SAP Base Procurement Systems
- Knowledge of procurement software and materials management
- Ability to read blueprints and to understand basic engineering documents
- Proven knowledge of contract law and its applications regarding purchasing processes
- Ability to work globally, independently, and self-directed
- Active US Secret Security clearance
