This role is based remotely but if you live within a 50-mile radius of [Atlanta, Austin, Detroit, Mountain View or Warren, ], you are expected to report to that location three times a week, at minimum.
The Role
Advanced Electrified Propulsion Engineering at General Motors is a rapidly developing automotive technology organization. We're creating cutting-edge battery systems that provide industry leading performance for future Electric Vehicles. Our team is critical to achieving GM’s vision of Zero Emissions, Zero Crashes, and Zero Congestion.
In this role you will be responsible for developing new propulsion system architectures with a focus on hardware. You'll lead a cross functional team in the development of Electrified Propulsion System Architectures through the Advanced Technology Work (ATW) development phase in accordance with the Electrification Process of Engineering . After assessing your designs for technology capability, you will continue development in the Balanced Architecture phase until the program handed off to execution teams. We’re seeking an engineer who works collaboratively with others and is comfortable with ambiguity.
What You'll Do (Responsibilities):

Balance vehicle and propulsion system requirements.

Ensure requirements and hardware technology align with customer expectations by collaborating with engineers from vehicle, battery, drive unit, and motor teams.

Develop the system to meet key performance and cost targets by working collaboratively VDDV, Cost Engineering and Planning

Ensure analytical models, initial component designs and controls of key electrification systems and components have been developed with high fidelity

Lead component or system trade studies to select optimized solutions to meet vehicle requirements of range, performance, drive quality and cost

Engage with other SMT’s, Vehicle teams, planning, Finance, and Electrification leadership as necessary to lead the project team through successful completion of key ATW and BA gates

Engage with GM R&D to provide input to and partner on advanced research projects.

Collaborate with R&D, Technical Fellows, Vehicle Architects and BoM owners to develop advanced propulsion technologies, proof-of-concepts and technology roadmaps.

Continuously benchmark automotive and other industries to identify and implement innovative technologies for electric vehicles.

Protect intellectual property (IP) by documenting your new ideas for invention board review and subsequent patent submissions.
