We are seeking an experienced Jig & Tooling Design Engineer to join our team. You will be responsible for developing and implementing cost-effective, innovative jigging and tooling solutions across all core F1 car design functions to ensure consistent and efficient component and assembly production.
Notionally part of the Composite Design Group, this role offers exposure to a wide range of engineering functions. You will provide both consultative support and detailed design input. Continual collaboration with end-users, QA and interfacing departments will be essential to ensure the timely delivery of cost-effective, consistent and accurate project outcomes.
Responsibilities:
To provide designs and detail support for -
Bond and Assembly Jigs
Machining Jigs
Bodywork Fit Jigs
Legality Checking Jigs
To provide first response follow-up support on projects during assembly, testing and development
To champion practical solutions to resolve issues arising from current working practises.
To proactively contribute, develop, implement, and improve designs for jig concepts.
To work collaboratively with the QA departments to assist in the resolution of relevant assembly related NCRs.
To maintain and develop skill levels to industry standard and maintain thorough and current working knowledge of jigs used in composite, metallic and electronic design and manufacture.
Additional/ peripheral activities:
Livery application jigging close interaction with manufacturing functions to appraise requirements.
Inspection technique integration (profile scanning, pre final pass machining checks, etc)
Skills & Knowledge Required
Previous experience of producing jig design schemes and detailed drawings of complex assemblies to a demanding schedule.
Experience of 3D CAD systems ideally with good working knowledge of CATIA
Proficiency in the efficient use of GD&T with good understanding of end use requirements, and inspection methodologies.
Good working knowledge of materials used in the design and production of jig assemblies.
Use of (and correct selection) of tooling board
Metallic materials- effective design for cost and accuracy
ADM advantages and disadvantages
Basic CFRP component design (moulds and components)
Bonding requirements
Proven record of working in a collaborative environment, communicating effectively, and progressing multiple projects concurrently.
Preference will be given to candidates with motorsport experience. However, we will also consider applicants with a strong background in jigging and tooling design for other low-volume, high-precision industries.
