About the Position
The Test Technician is responsible for the preparation and monitoring of tests of prototype transmissions and components per customer requirements with the test lab. These tests include but are not limited to: transmission/clutch/engine dynamometer durability testing, components testing, mechatronic testing, vehicle test runs, transmission/clutch teardown and evaluation, and inspection equipment evaluation for all product lines. This individual will also be using spreadsheet, word, and data table capabilities of the latest computer software.
What you can look forward to as the Test Technician:
- Perform automatic transmission validation testing on-site and at customer locations to support product development, validation, and customer requirements.
- Assemble, disassemble, retrofit, and troubleshoot automatic transmissions, clutch assemblies, subassemblies, and test equipment mechanically and electrically.
- Train and mentor Associate Technicians while supporting the product testing team through all validation and development activities.
- Install, configure, maintain, calibrate, and troubleshoot measurement and data acquisition equipment to ensure accurate test results.
- Diagnose electrical and electronic systems using testing instruments such as oscilloscopes, voltmeters, and ammeters; build and maintain wiring harnesses, cables, and breakout boxes.
- Maintain departmental tools, equipment, and vehicle fleet, including preventive maintenance, service scheduling, and operational readiness.
- Conduct testing in accordance with established procedures, maintain complete test documentation, and communicate test results and out-of-specification conditions to engineering teams.
- Maintain a safe, organized, and 5S-compliant work environment while supporting continuous improvement initiatives and ensuring compliance with IATF 16949, company policies, and applicable regulations.
Your profile as Test Technician:
- High School Diploma or GED with 2–5+ years of experience in product development, testing, validation, or related technical disciplines.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel and Word, with strong documentation and reporting skills.
- Demonstrated problem-solving, analytical, and troubleshooting abilities with a strong attention to detail.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to work effectively across cross-functional teams and all levels of an organization.
- Mechanical aptitude and hands-on experience using standard shop measurement tools, machining equipment, drilling, fabrication, and technical testing procedures.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, assembly drawings, component specifications, and GD&T requirements involving tight tolerances.
- Working knowledge of testing practices, test benches, hydraulics theory, powertrain systems, and product specifications, with the ability to learn computer-controlled measurement equipment.
- Self-motivated and capable of working independently in a fast-paced, high-volume environment while managing multiple priorities effectively.
