Work Arrangement: This role is categorized as onsite. The successful candidate is expected to report to their assigned GM worksite, five days per week and to respond to the site in the event of an emergency after hours, on weekend or holidays.
The Role:
The Quality Operations Shift Leader leads a medium-sized team of salaried and hourly employees responsible for executing the Global Quality System within the plant. This role is critical to sustaining a BIQ IV environment by coaching the Quality Operations team, ensuring the integrity of the quality system across production departments, and driving strong execution on the shop floor.
The ideal candidate is a continuous improvement-minded leader with strong technical capability, sound judgment, and the ability to influence across functional areas. This individual will help move the organization forward by solving problems, strengthening processes, and protecting the customer. The role requires independent decision-making, strong cross-functional relationships, and the managerial courage to provide direct, honest, and constructive feedback to plant staff and executive leadership in a professional manner.
This leader will coach, audit, and reinforce expectations within the GM Quality Manual and GMS BIQ principles and elements.
What You'll Do (Role Responsibilities):
- Lead start-of-shift and end-of-shift processes, including effective cross-shift communication
- Coordinate manpower across the shift
- Attend production operations meetings
- Conduct huddles with Group Leaders
- Initiate containment actions and provide support for execution
- Review salary vacation and rotation schedules
- Participate in staff layered audits
- Manage the Supplier Action Center for the assigned shift
- Support the torque collection team and manage response actions
- Support production through problem solving and a continuous improvement mindset
- Understand quality department KPIs and drive improvement actions
- Ensure Built in Quality standards are maintained on the assigned shift
- Conduct BPD reviews with Group Leaders
- Review QCOS books for accuracy and follow-through
- Lead flex check execution and implementation reviews
- Present clear problem definitions, technical guidance on complex issues, and regular progress updates to Assembly Plant and Engineering staff
- Support launch activities for new products when applicable
Your Skills and Abilities (Required Qualifications)
- Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Engineering
- Minimum of 5 years of full-time relevant work experience
- Quality experience
- Experience working with Kronos
- Strong knowledge of vehicle and propulsion systems, manufacturing operations, and the GM Quality System / GMS BIQ
- Strong knowledge of the Quality Launch Plan and the requirements within the Global Quality Manual
- Must be able to work on any shift
