At GM, we are driving the transformation of mobility through advanced driver assistance and automated driving technologies. The Dynamic Display team is central to this mission—defining, integrating, and validating in-cluster visualizations that build driver trust across manual driving, Super Cruise, and next-generation SC3.0 automated features. We are seeking a Staff Systems Engineer to lead the development and execution of Dynamic Display across VIP, SDV2.0, and SC3.0 programs. In this role, you will work at the intersection of HMI, perception, software, and automated driving, owning the feature from requirements definition through validation, with a strong emphasis on simulation and automated workflows. You will be responsible for delivering a cohesive, end-to-end system that ensures mode-aware visualizations—spanning manual driving, Super Cruise, SC3.0 transitions and escalations, lane changes, perspective shifts, and related scene cues—meet product, safety, and performance expectations. The ideal candidate is a seasoned Systems and Execution Engineer who leads with ownership, drives cross-functional alignment, and consistently delivers data-driven results that elevate GM’s user experience.
The Role
As a Staff Systems Engineer for Dynamic Display, you will lead both the technical direction and day-to-day execution within the domain, providing leadership to a cross-functional team of engineers spanning multiple organizations. This includes driving alignment and delivery across requirements, integration, software development, design, validation, and analytics to ensure seamless end-to-end execution.
What You'll Do
- Lead cross-functional discussions with Software, HMI/UX, Perception, Systems, Product, Program Management, Design, and hardware teams to align feature strategy, architecture, and execution for VIP, SDV2.0 and SC3.0.
- Lead the development and documentation of use cases, actor flows, and FMEA, along with feature-level requirements (DNG/DOORS), ensuring end-to-end traceability to Xray test cases and comprehensive test plans.
- Stand up and mature SDV2.0 / SC3.0 bench (SIL & HIL) and emulator environments for integration and regression testing.
- Develop and own unified integration, calibration, and validation test plans, including SIL/HIL and data-playback scenarios.
- Define and track KPIs and analytics (Heap/CTF-aligned metrics such as utilization, gaze-on-target, SC engagement, escalation response, and mode-transition behavior) and turn data into actionable performance improvements.
- Lead Jira PI planning within the team — clear deliverables, priorities, and timing aligned to development & program milestones.
- Lead triage, issue resolution, and retros for GIMs and PRTSs in the Dynamic Display domain.
- Mentor and coach engineers; serve as the technical SME for Dynamic Display System.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Physics, Math, Computer Science, or related technical field.
- Minimum 8 years of engineering experience.
- Deep understanding of ADAS/HMI systems, vehicle performance, and automated driving visualization concepts.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and drive issues to resolution across teams.
- Strong technical and non-technical communication; effective collaboration with stakeholders at all levels.
- Experience leading engineers across time zones and functions.
- Experience with requirements tools (DOORS, DNG) and FMEA.
- Experience with Jira and Jira Xray for change and test management.
- Experience with calibration and data tools (CalCheck, CRETA, INCA) and/or SIL/HIL validation environments.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or a related technical field
- Experience working within Agile frameworks, including PI planning methodologies
- Hands-on experience in automotive ADAS or HMI software development, with a focus on cluster or in-vehicle visualization
- Proven experience in performance integration, calibration, or validation on production vehicle programs
- Demonstrated track record in feature development, including end-to-end capability engineering from concept through production
- Familiarity with analytics and data instrumentation tools (e.g., Heap, CTF, Databricks) to define, measure, and track feature KPIs
