We are looking for a Project Engineer to provide a unified link between Engineering, Programmes & Operations teams, supporting with problem resolution across all projects and ensuring technical delivery to time, cost, and quality targets.
The successful candidate will coordinate multidisciplinary engineering inputs into projects, manage internal interfaces, lead relevant work packages or work streams, and coordinate programme planning activities. They will also provide technical liaison with customers and suppliers, and support business development activities.
Key responsibilities include:
- Coordinating multidisciplinary engineering inputs into projects, managing internal interfaces, including to commercial, programme, and operations functions.
- Leading relevant work packages or work streams with the project scope.
- Coordinating, supporting, and providing input to programme planning activities – collating input from discipline and subject matter experts.
- Technical liaison with customers and suppliers.
- Technical ownership of workstream commodity Bill of Materials and coordination of engineering release activities in PLM and ERP/MRP systems.
- Data analysis and reporting of engineering KPIs into the programme and to the Technical Director.
- Supporting business development activities, typically by coordinating technical inputs into bids.
- Engaging with physical build, issue tracking, and investigation (including 8D), and physical/virtual validation activities – leading individual workstreams as required.
- Supporting relevant FMEA reviews (from concept to manufacturing phase).
- Supporting the design review process and ensuring all stakeholders are involved.
- Supporting systems engineers and technical leads with requirements elicitation and target setting.
- Driving Engineering Sign-off Activities, collating the necessary evidence for gateway approval.
- Managing the EBOM/MBOM, ETRS, and supporting the internal ERP/IFS process as required.
The ideal candidate will have an engineering or science-based degree, 3+ years' experience in an engineering and manufacturing company working on production programmes, and effective engineering delivery experience in a vehicle under-body systems or other complex mechanisms.
They will also have proven robust experience of supplier management, good understanding of general engineering principles, and experience of working with various engineering disciplines in the mechanical and EE domains.
In addition, they will have understanding of manufacturing processes, technologies, materials, and fastening techniques, familiarity with workshop activities such as fabrication, welding, CNC machining, and experience with CAD and PLM tools (CATIA and Windchill particularly).
Preferred skills include experience of BOM creation/management, good understanding of systems engineering, and awareness of data acquisition, calibration, and data analysis tools (e.g. Vector products, MATLAB/Simulink).
The successful candidate will be able to quickly grasp new projects, products, processes, and techniques, demonstrate a strong interest in and aptitude for engineering and project management, and be proactive and positive with excellent communication skills and the confidence to advise and provide direction.
They will also have strong problem-solving ability, with a structured, logical, and organised approach, effective time management and scheduling skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities, self-motivation, and determination to deliver against challenging objectives.
High attention to detail, ensuring accuracy at all times and applying appropriate validation techniques, and confident communicating and collaborating across departments and at all levels of the business.
