The Role
The Sr. Software Engineering Manager- AI Development will lead the design, development, and delivery of advanced AI-driven solutions across GM’s enterprise platforms on behalf of VEQ (Global Vehicle Engineering & Quality).
This role combines deep technical expertise with leadership responsibilities, driving innovation in AI applications and managing a team of engineers to build scalable, secure, and high-performing systems. You will lead projects leveraging GLEAN and DBX Genie platforms, integrate AI into enterprise workflows, and ensure alignment with GM’s strategic objectives for next-generation data and AI capabilities.
This position offers the opportunity to shape GM’s AI strategy, mentor engineering talent, and deliver impactful solutions that transform data into actionable insights. You will play a key role in guiding full-stack development efforts, managing cloud migrations, and fostering a culture of technical excellence.
What You'll Do (Responsibilities):
- Lead and Manage Teams: Oversee a team of software engineers, providing mentorship, career development, and performance management.

AI Platform Development: Architect and implement AI solutions across VEQ using GLEAN and DBX Genie , ensuring scalability and compliance with enterprise standards.

Data Platform Expertise: Collaborate with data engineering teams to design and optimize data pipelines, leveraging big data technologies such as Spark , DBX, and advanced SQL.
- Cloud Transformation: Lead migration and optimization of AI and data workloads to cloud platforms (Azure preferred), ensuring security and performance.
- CI/CD and DevOps: Implement advanced CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions , automated builds, and deployments.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with product, data science, and infrastructure teams to deliver AI-driven features and solutions.
- Technical Governance: Ensure adherence to GM’s coding standards, security practices, and documentation requirements.
- Innovation and Strategy: Identify emerging AI technologies and integrate them into GM’s ecosystem to maintain competitive advantage.
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications):
- Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- 10+ years experience in software engineering with a strong full-stack background
- 5+ years experience in people management, leading engineering teams in complex environments

Proven AI development experience building and deploying AI‑enabled solu tions on GLEAN and DBX Genie platforms (or closely related internal AI platforms), including prompt design, orchestration, integration, and evaluation

Strong knowledge of cloud platforms (Azure preferred) and cloud-native architectures

Experience with big data technologies (Spark) and advanced SQL

Strong data platform experience, including:
■ Working with modern data platforms (e.g., data lakes DBX)
■ Designing and consuming data products, APIs, and pipelines for analytics and AI
■ Understanding of data governance, security, and data quality concepts

Advanced CI/CD knowledge and pipeline development using GitHub Actions.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills
What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)
- Demonstrated success in enterprise-scale AI deployments and integrating AI into mission-critical workflows
- Experience in data platform modernization and optimizing complex data pipelines for AI workloads
- Proven track record of leading cloud migrations for AI and data platforms, especially to Azure
- Familiarity with GM’s internal standards, compliance frameworks, and ability to navigate complex corporate environments
- Strong ability to drive technical innovation, influence architecture decisions, and manage organizational change
- Experience collaborating with data science teams to operationalize machine learning models into production systems
Company Vehicle :
Upon successful completion of a motor vehicle report review, you will be eligible to participate in a company vehicle evaluation program, through which you will be assigned a General Motors vehicle to drive and evaluate.
Note: program participants are required to purchase/lease a qualifying GM vehicle every four years unless one of a limited number of exceptions applies.
