General Motors Research Labs is an applied research center dedicated to creating and evaluating innovations for future vehicles. Within this organization, the Advanced Controls Group offers an exciting opportunity for highly motivated engineers to shape the future of mobility through AI and advanced controls . The team focuses on vehicle control systems , including:
- Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), active safety
- Automated driving
- Chassis control
Key Responsibilities
- Prototype and demonstrate advanced vehicle control software functions to global teams and executive leadership.
- Integrate novel algorithms into the vehicle architecture; familiarity with in-vehicle communication protocols is a plus.
- Develop and implement algorithms using rapid-prototyping platforms such as dSPACE .
- Utilize tools such as MATLAB/Simulink , dSPACE , INCA , and Vehicle Spy for system analysis, calibration, and validation.
Required Qualifications
- U.S. citizenship required to comply with federal government contract provision expressly restricting role to U.S. citizens
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Math, Computer Science, IT, or Physics
- 5+ years of experience with automotive control systems and embedded software development.
- Proficient in MATLAB/Simulink and other relevant engineering tools.
- 2+ years of experience with rapid prototyping tools like dSPACE.
- Experience with vehicle diagnostics, CAN, and Ethernet.
- Excellent communication, leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Preferred qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Systems Engineering, or Computer Science.
- Strong understanding and demonstrated capability in vehicle dynamics, chassis controls, ADAS/active safety, and autonomous driving systems.
- 2+ years of experience with in-vehicle, development, calibration, and validation (preferably with ETAS/INCA and NeoVi / Vehicle Spy tools).
- Experience with simulation, HiL, and/or mathematical modeling.
- High degree of Managerial Courage and Comfort with Ambiguity
