What You’ll Do - Formerly known as Responsibilities
- Lead and develop a team of designers, driving both project success and individual professional growth.
- Own design efforts for frameworks, system OS applications, and instrument clusters across all GM brands and in-market UI product versions.
- Collaborate with product managers, software engineers, and stakeholders to transform requirements into innovative, user-centered design solutions.
- Oversee the entire design process—from early concepts and wireframes to prototypes and final deliverables—ensuring usability, consistency, and design excellence.
- Ensure adherence to brand guidelines and maintain high design quality standards across all outputs.
- Champion user-centered design principles and leverage data-driven insights to inform and validate design decisions.
- Stay ahead of emerging design trends, tools, and technologies to drive innovation.
- Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and innovative team culture aligned with organizational goals.

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)
- Experience & Education
- 8+ years of experience creating digital interfaces for web, mobile, or in-vehicle platforms.
- Formal training or degree in Interface Design, Visual Design, or a related discipline.
- Strong portfolio showcasing UX expertise, interaction design, creativity, and depth of thought.
- Design & Strategy Expertise
- Proven ability to manage design strategies that align with business objectives while ensuring user-centered outcomes.
- Deep understanding of the product development lifecycle and competitive landscape.
- Ability to exercise restraint in design to balance aesthetics, usability, and functionality.
- Process & Tools
- Strong track record of implementing efficient workflows and design systems to optimize productivity and maintain quality.
- Proficiency in common design tools such as Figma and Adobe Creative Suite.
- Collaboration & Leadership
- Ability to partner with cross-functional teams to creatively solve complex problems.
- Strong adaptability and agility in managing shifting priorities, tight deadlines, and evolving business needs without compromising team morale or project outcomes.

What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)
- Proven experience leading design teams of 5+ designers, fostering collaboration, and driving creative excellence.
- 5+ years of experience in the automotive industry.
- Hands-on experience in lean environments, including sprint planning and iterative design processes.
- Strong understanding of accessibility and inclusive design standards, with the ability to create experiences that meet best practices.
- Proficiency in prototyping, with experience in software and/or hardware development considered a plus.
