Senior CFD Engineer – Non-F1
Brackley, UK
Mercedes was born to race - and we've been doing it since 1901. Today, the Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS F1 Team competes at the pinnacle of motorsport: the FIA Formula One World Championship. The pioneering spirit of our company founders lives on in our commitment to innovation and performance. As the world's original automobile manufacturer, Mercedes-Benz has defined the cutting edge of technology for over a century. Today, our F1 team exists to demonstrate the best of the brand's performance on the global stage.
About the role:
We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced CFD Engineer to join our Team, working on innovative non-F1 projects.
In this role, you’ll help shape our non-F1 CFD workflow: creating, enhancing and maintaining the frontend and backend tools used by our aerodynamicists to develop high-performance vehicles.
It’s a great time to join us. Working closely with key stakeholders, you’ll play a pivotal role in evolving our tools from concept to deployment, making a tangible impact on the processes used by our non-F1 Aerodynamics Group.
Key responsibilities:
Your responsibilities will include:
Ownership of all stages of the non-F1 CFD process, including setup, pre-processing, meshing, solver execution, and post-processing
Creating a long-term vision aligned with project goals and user requirements
Designing, developing, and implementing code that delivers new capabilities into both our non-F1 CFD process and methodology
Collaborating with other specialists to develop, test, and implement new capabilities
Maintaining and improving existing codebases
Supporting and training new users
Providing expert guidance on advanced or non-standard CFD tasks
Managing system resources and balancing priorities across projects
This role is office-based, at our campus in Brackley, United Kingdom.
Candidate profile:
You have an established record working at a senior level developing CFD tools, processes and / or methodology.
We’re interested in candidates with:
Experience of developing automated and robust CFD pipelines for aerodynamic development with clear diagnostics
Proficiency in Linux scripting and coding to simplify workflows for other users
A broad understanding of flow physics and how to model aerodynamics in CFD, including best practice, limitations and troubleshooting
Familiarity with stages in the CFD workflow, including preparing geometry, meshing, solver settings, turbulence models, numerical schemes, case setup and post-processing
Awareness of hardware requirements, including performance monitoring and optimisation
You have a good level of relevant theoretical knowledge, for example through training and experience in a professional setting, or through a degree such as Computer Science, Aeronautical Engineering or an equivalent subject.
With an open and honest communication style and broad overview of your subject, you relish collaborating in a team setting and enjoy discussing technical concepts. You are equally comfortable working on your own, applying your reflective nature, interpretive skills, attention to detail and dependable judgment to understand complicated problems then propose and evaluate quality solutions in a timely fashion. Looking to fulfil your potential, you are keen to develop yourself further in a demanding role, excited about constantly learning while fostering the understanding of others.
While experience of working in a high-performance environment such as motorsport would be beneficial, we are more focussed on your potential to deliver at the highest level, applying your skills and understanding to practical data problems.
